Metra commuter train

Union Pacific North Line

It takes about 50 minutes to and from down town Chicago. The Lake Forest train station is in town near Deer Path Inn. There is also a West Lake Forest train station that runs a different line, but this UP-N line is much closer to the hotel and every Airbnb we listed. If staying in Highland Park, it is the same train line, but the "Highland Park" stop. *Note there is no direct train from the airport to Lake Forest. This is a commuter train line. The Chicago elevated train is called "the El" and runs through the city and from the airport to the city.

American taxi

Perfect for airport transfers to Lake Forest

I always take this to and from the airport. It is important to call them or download their app to reserve a taxi once you land and have baggage. It is much cheaper than simply going to the taxi line and hailing a taxi. They will meat you outside of baggage claim of whichever terminal you re in by the door that says "prearranged rides."  Usually door G, lower level.  You will need to exit the door, cross the first street and wait for them in the median and they pick you up in the outer ring. You will watch for you assigned taxi number. Cost to Lake Forest is $42, plus tip, Highland Park is slight cheaper and Lake Bluff slightly more expensive, all with in a few dollars of each other.

Uber

Perfect for use in town. I don't recommend it from the airport. It is usually not cheaper than the taxi and you have to meet the Uber at the upper level between terminal 2 and 3.

Chicago O'Hare

Airport

Please fly in and out of this airport. It is much closer to the wedding. With normal traffic, it takes 40 minutes to get to Lake Forest.

(*Midway airport may seem cheaper but the taxi ride takes around and hour and a half - to 2 hours depending on traffic and the  prearranged taxi is around $90 usually. )
