Divya and Anand first met during their undergraduate years at Virginia Commonwealth University. Though Anand was a year ahead of her, their paths still crossed on more than one occasion. There were brief moments: a small “hello” walking through the dorms, meeting mutual friends, or even a day where they were dance partners on the university's Raas team. They were fleeting parts of each other’s thoughts and neither knew where their futures would take them.
After Anand graduated college, he spent one year working in New York City. During that time, Divya finished her last year in undergrad and as fate would have it, they both were set to start at the VCU School of Medicine the following year.
On the first day of medical school, they instantly recognized each other. It wasn’t long before they started spending more time with each other. Anand knew Divya’s roommate well from previous years, and so he would often use that as an excuse to hang out with Divya.
Through long study sessions, anatomy lab, and post-exam celebrations, Divya and Anand got to know each other closely.
One date led to another, and then another, and their bond grew with each passing moment. On any time off from school they had, they never missed an opportunity to explore and travel with each other.
Eventually Anand asked Divya to be his fiancé. He planned a secret scavenger hunt throughout Richmond, Virginia to relive the most precious parts of their relationship. Anand had Divya hunt for clues that led her to their first date spot (a city-gazing park bench), her favorite ice cream shop, and an antique movie theater with their names embroidered on the cinema’s marquee sign. Finally the city-wide adventure ended with Anand waiting on the steps of the Virginia State Capitol with a ring in hand.
Since that day in 2018, we’ve been anxiously awaiting the day of our wedding and we’re so excited to say it’s finally happening!
