Our wedding weekend is just a few days before Día de los Muertos, a major Mexican holiday. Please book accommodations ASAP, availability may be limited due to the holiday weekend. 

Please be sure to have a valid passport with an expiration date at least 6 months from your date of travel. 

At this time, mask mandates remain in place in San Miguel de Allende. Be prepared to wear a mask indoors throughout the city. 

Our wedding events will be outdoors and will not require masks. 

The closest airport to San Miguel is about 1 hour away. Please refer to Transportation for recommended options to get to San Miguel de Allende from the airport. 

BJX is the most used airport for people traveling to San Miguel. It is about a 1.5-hour drive to San Miguel. However, people flying from the Northeast might find better flight options to Mexico City or Queretaro.

Volaris has a number of affordable direct flights to BJX from Oakland, San Jose, Los Angeles, and Chicago.

American and United also have direct flights through Houston, Dallas, and Chicago to BJX.  

San Miguel de Allende is about a 1-hour drive from the airport. Limited direct flights from the US at this time. We recommend continuing to check availability as airlines revise routes.

San Miguel de Allende is about a 3.5-hour drive from the MEX airport. This is the most common direct flight option from the U.S. Also a great option if you're able to extend your trip and visit Mexico City while you're here!

There are a TON of great options to rent beautiful and affordable vacation homes in San Miguel. Everything from 1 or 2 bedroom casitas to 7 bedroom villas with full staff that are perfect to accommodate larger groups.

Cumpanio
Located next door and run by the owners of the wonderful bakery, Panio, Cumpanio has breakfast, snacks, and most importantly a bar styled after those in Europe. Perfect to have a spritz or cocktail. Great location right off the main square. 

Hang out in the main square “El Jardin”
Known as El Jardin, a tree-lined plaza in the center of town surrounded by gorgeous centuries old buildings and the famous church of San Miguel, La Parroquia. Enjoy the shade or take in a song from a roving mariachi band while enjoying the sights and sounds of the town square.

Fabrica la Aurora
What used to be a textile factory, today houses canvasses, sculptures and artisan products of great artists who live in San Miguel. Browse art from local artists and enjoy a bite at one of the several cafes.

Tequila Tasting

Botanical Gardens: El Charco de Ingenio
Outside of the city is a 170 acre botanical garden within a nature preserve. It was created in 1990 to preserve the natural environment and features cacti and other indigenous flora. 

Instituto Allende
One of the beacons for artists traveling to Mexico is Instituto Allende which has been luring art students for more than five decades. The institute lives in an 18th century historic home. The campus is open to visitors weekdays and Saturday mornings.

Daylight Savings time in Mexico ends October 30. At 2:00am on October 30 clocks will turn back one hour. This give us all an extra hour to sleep (or party) the night of the wedding! 

San Miguel de Allende is situated in the Central Mexican highlands about four hours northeast of Mexico City. It is a city that manages to be both quaint and cosmopolitan at the same time. Once an important stop on the silver route between Zacatecas and Mexico City, its historic center is filled with well-preserved buildings from the 17th and 18th centuries. Now, a hub for expat artists, this highland city is known for its Spanish Colonial architecture and colorful facades.

San Miguel has consistently been ranked one of the top places to visit in the world by Condé Nast and Travel & Leisure. Roughly 10% of the town consists of ex-pats, providing a very international feel. And, due to its high regard as a tourist destination, it is quite safe.

Located at 6,2500ft expect warm sunny days with highs in the mid 70s and cool crisp mornings and evenings with lows in the low 50s.

San Miguel is a very walkable town. Please keep in mind the roads are cobblestone and the hills can be steep so comfortable walking shoes are a must!

Walking is the best way to get around the colonial town of San Miguel. However, the uneven cobblestone roads can make that tricky. Please plan on wearing comfortable walking shoes as you explore the city and walk between venues. 

Even wedges and low heels aren’t recommend when walking though the city. Plan to wear sneakers or flat walking shoes then change into heels at the events.

Our events will be held outdoors. We expect evening temperatures in the 50s so we recommend bringing a jacket or throw for all of the events. 

- You will need Mexican Pesos while in San Miguel de Allende. US Dollars are not typically accepted. We recommend carrying some cash for buying odds and ends and tipping. The exchange rate is currently about $20 Mexican pesos to $1 US dollar.

- Use your credit card in lieu of cash where possible. Your exchange rate will be better, and you will not have to worry about carrying too much cash.

- It may be good to get some pesos before leaving the states to use for tipping or small purchases when you arrive. Alternatively, you can get pesos at the airport upon arrival from a currency exchange booth or ATM.

- There are plenty of safe ATMs at banks around the main square in San Miguel.

Tipping:

- Restaurants: 10-15%. Some restaurants include a service charge. Confirm whether this has already been included.

- The Spanish word for tip is “propina”

You will be required to fill out a Mexican immigration and customs forms while on the plane to show officials when you land. Have a pen handy and be prepared with your passport number, flight number, and address of your destination in Mexico.

At immigration, the official will give you back the bottom part of your immigration form. You MUST keep this “departure card” to present when leaving Mexico.
