HER STORY
Well if you ask my sister Nkiru or our friend Nerissa, Michael has ALWAYS been in love with me! Lol! I on the other hand, was not so convinced. When we met 8 years ago at church, I thought he was a cool guy, funny, and down to earth...that's all. He was a little younger than the guys I was used to dating so it didn't cross my mind that we would be more than just friends. Plus to be fair, Michael never made a move, he was the ultimate gentleman lol. Over the years we stayed in touch and even after I moved to NY/NJ, we would hang out when I came back home to Houston for holidays or special occasions. I always appreciated him checking up on me to make sure I was okay, although now I think he had some other motives :-) On one of my trips home, Michael asked if I wanted to go to dinner. Not thinking anything of it, I said sure and put on some jeans and a t-shirt. I thought this hang out was a little different because he offered to pick me up and when he showed up, he was dressed up. I made some jokes and didn't think anything of it until we showed up to a fancy restaurant. At that point, I knew this was a date because he was being waaayy more of a gentleman than he had ever been, pulling out my chair, opening car doors, etc. That weekend we spent time really getting to know each other and I realized he was more than just my cool, funny, down to earth friend. 2 years later, I thank God that I can say I am marrying my best friend!
HIS STORY
I don't know exactly when it happened, but at some point Chidi and I become friends. She would come to Fondren, and after church we would spend hours talking in the foyer or in the parking lot about several things. I do remember one Sabbath that she was having at potluck at her house and she didn't have my mathematics, but being the resourceful lady she is, she circumvented this issue and invited me ( she slid into my.... lol). But all jokes aside, after years of just being friends, I decided to ask her out on an official date. That weekend we spent the time getting to know each other on another level. During that time it became clear to me that she was indeed who I had been praying for. I can honestly say that she completes me. She is the perfect verse over a tight beat!

When I first met Mike, it was at FMC through VBS and Sunday pick up games. I quickly learned he loved basketball as much as I did. Fifteen years later our friendship developed into what it is today, family. I'm so proud to see my big bro taking this step, and I'm thankful that I get to be a part of it. I have been taking notes and will continue taking notes! Congratulations my brother.

I've been privileged to know Mike for a considerable amount of time. Throughout, I've known him to be a man who takes pride in everything he does. Whether taking shots on the court, assembling Sabbath attire, or turning a church game night into a high stakes affair, expect him to give his all. Anyone who has been around Mike, can attest to his infectious energy. Confucius once said, "a superior man is modest in his speech, but exceeds in his actions. I have faith the modest speech will come, but one out of two ain't bad. In all seriousness, Mike is a man of effort, action, and heart. I know he will put in the work to help produce a long and happy marriage. May God bless you both in your amazing union.

I honestly can't remember the first time I met Mike because we would always be at the same church functions. From potluck to AYs, all the way down to hooping at the activity center. Well... he was hooping. I didn't have much cmmerce in the handles department. When we got older, we continued to hang out, but it blossomed into hanging at each other's homes, having deep conversations about religion and life, even free-styling in the back of the car. And if you know anything about free-styling, you know you just don't do that with any old person. We have been able to help each other grow, provide strength in dark times as well as celebrate each other's success. I am so proud at the steps he has taken to get here and joy and love that emote from him because of Chidi. I wish you both the greatest abundance of joy and happiness this world has to offer. Lead each other in strength as you follow God.

As a Missouri City native, I grew up with Nevins as much more than a neighborhood friend. Growing up as children in church, the trust that was built quickly grew to a brotherhood. In our adolescence, he served as a constant measuring stick for our improvements on the basketball court. Throughout middle school and high school, we learned that our love for music went beyond simple notes on a page and were in fact gifts from God. Individual growth in adulthood has taught us that while on different paths, we can still support those in our circles, as God continues to pour out blessings. I am immensely proud of you Nevins, may God bless your union. Welcome to married life!
