The Whelan family have been incredibly lucky to call Far Hills their home for nearly four decades. The unique hill top location on the shoulder of Caragoona Mountain provides stunning 360 degree views. From various corners of the garden you can look out over the Wicklow Mountains, the Irish Sea, Bray, Bray Head, Killiney Hill, Dalkey Island, The Scalp, Powerscourt, as well as the Little and Great Sugarloaf Mountains. And on a clear day you can see all the way to Wales and the Mountains of Mourne.
The Wedding, including the ceremony, will take place in the beautiful wild gardens of Far Hills. Guests will be encouraged to explore the multi-level lawns, ponds, and hidden pathways that weave beneath the forest of trees that envelope the property.
For the many guests who have spent joyous times here over the years, we look forward to welcoming you back. To those making their first visit, we hope that you enjoy the relaxed, informal atmosphere that makes Far Hills so special.
Getting There
Far Hills is not as far away as the name suggests! With no traffic it's only a 30 minute drive to Dublin city centre, so getting here and back shouldn't be a problem. That said, some logistics will have to be considered in order to get everyone to and from Far Hills. Calling a taxi from Bray at 3am is possible but you might expect a long delay at that time on a Friday night, so we strongly advise making travel arrangements beforehand.
Driving
Parking is going to be tight so if you are driving please carpool where possible! There is limited parking on the grass verge either side of the road directly outside the house. Once those spaces have been filled cars will need to park slightly further away but nobody will have to park more than a few minutes walk away. We will have signs ready to direct traffic on the day. If you have any questions or concerns beforehand give us a call!
Designated drivers who are driving home after the wedding are encouraged to offer lifts to anyone who might need them. If you intend to leave your car here overnight we recommend pre-booking your taxi home
Taxi
A taxi from Dublin city centre usually costs around €60. Fares to Southside suburbs usually around €40. Trips to Bray are about €15. If you are sharing between 4 people that works out pretty economically.
Whether you are arriving by taxi, drive, or get a lift, we strongly recommend you arrange your transport home beforehand. Waiting for a taxi company to answer in the middle of the night is no fun, and we'll be competing with all the pubs closing on a Friday night in Bray so if you leave it to the last minute there might be a long delay.
If you pre-book a taxi in the days before the wedding you should be fine. If there is a larger group of you coming together you might consider hiring a minibus to pick you up.
Public Transport
Coming from Dublin, the DART will get you as far as Bray, and the Luas as far as Cherrywood. Both are about 10 minute drive away so you will have to arrange for a taxi for the final stretch of the journey. The 133 Bus Eireann and 145 Dublin Bus will get you closer but you will need to be collected from the Bus Stop. If you intend to travel by public transport and have any questions or difficulties give us a shout!
Where is Far Hills?!
Our official address has changed many times over the years, but currently, according to our Eircode at least, we live in Carrigoona Commons East (Eircode: A98FD71). Other information you may need to give taxi drivers is that we live in Glencormac, at the top of the Rocky Valley Drive, near Kilcroney Lane, off the N11 between Bray and Kilmacanogue.
Thankfully you don't need to know any of that these days, you can just use Google Maps!
