Travel Guide
For those staying in Killashee on Friday
Killashee House in Naas is a 40 minute drive from Dublin Airport. It is well serviced by the Dublin Airport Coach (Route 726) which runs every hour on the half hour (€10 pp). This bus will drop you at Naas - Main Street Post Office, a 5 minute taxi journey from the hotel.
Alternatively, a taxi from the airport should cost approx €70. There are taxis readily available at the airport but we would recommend downloading the "free-now" app to compare quotes and for using throughout the weekend.
All the big car rental companies are at Dublin Airport also. We recommend using Avis/Budget as their collection and drop off point is conveniently located in the Terminal 2 Short Term Car Park right opposite the terminal.
Saturday
There will be a bus leaving Killashee Hotel at 2:15pm to transport guests to Rathsallagh for those without their own mode of transport.
Rathsallagh is approximately a 45 minute drive from Portlaoise and about 55 minutes from Dublin. Eircode: W91 XK68
For those travelling from abroad-the best way to see Ireland is to rent a car. All the usual car rental companies are at the airport and in Dublin city. If you’re not comfortable renting a car, there are plenty of bus routes and tours that will also help you explore the country while you're here. Visit www.transportforireland.ie for bus, train, or tram routes around the country.
Planning around the wedding...
Long Weekend Trip: With an additional day or two around the wedding, we would explore Dublin city and take one day trip from Dublin to: 1) Hike Glendalough in Wicklow, 2) visit the seaside suburb of Howth in Dublin city, 3) walk the cliffs from Bray to Greystones (in Wicklow), or alternatively, an extra day around Rathsallagh and the beautiful Wicklow Mountains would provide quick access to Glendalough, which is only 20 minutes away.
One Week: Explore the Wild Atlantic Way The west of Ireland is the best of Ireland. We’d recommend going to Kerry/Dingle and Connemara in Galway and then finishing up your trip in Dublin.
Two Weeks: Take your time and explore the full 2,500km shoreline of the Wild Atlantic Way. We’d recommend going to Cork, Kerry, Clare, Galway, Mayo, and then the Giants Causeway, Belfast and finally Dublin.
For any tips or advice on where to go and what to see, please please please do ask us as we would love for you to make the most of your time in Ireland.
Wicklow County is the "Garden of Ireland". It's best known for it's namesake mountains, with many hiking routes with spectacular views.
Glendalough- only twenty minutes from the wedding venue (a perfect pre-wedding hike!). It’s an old monastic settlement with two dark lakes tucked in between a long glacial valley. Surrounded by forests, Glendalough is a sweeping expanse that combines unbelievable natural beauty with utter serenity. Take the spink hiking route for the most incredible lakeside views. Johnny Foxes Pub - This is formely the highest pub in Ireland (Kerry has since beaten this feat. There's fierce competition). Built in 1798, the pub is 20 minutes from Glendalough and has great live music and food - perect for after a long hike. For more information: www.johnniefoxs.com/
Powerscourt - Powerscourt is Wicklows most visited attraction. It's a Palladian Mansian with incredible formal gardens and the stunning views that accompany them. Most of the house is not open to the public, but there's a fine cafe and several gift and homewares shops to be enjoyed, while the grounds are home to two golf courses and the best hotel in Wicklow. There's also a waterfall about a 10 min drive away which is great. For more information: www.lonelyplanet.com/ireland/attractions/powerscourt-estate/a/poi-sig/1098595/359780
Avoca Handweavers This is Ireland's oldest working mill and the birthplace of the famous Avoca Handweavers, a company that is now famous across Ireland and the world. The mill opens from 10am to 4.30pm and has been turning out woollens and other fabrics since 1723. There's a beautiful cafe there and it may be worth picking up one of their amazing cook books. They're famous for their salads, but their soup and brownbread are also delicious! For more information: www.avoca.com/en/stores-and-cafes/village
