Delos, the birthplace of Apollo and his Twin sister Artemis (Diana), is a small island situated at the center of Cyclades – a group of islands forming a circle – in the Aegean Sea. Of a great significance in ancient times. Delos is considered today to be one of the most important historical and archeological sites in Greece. It Lies 3,5 kms. west of Mykonos. According to Greek mythology, there was once a violent clash between the Olympian Gods and the Giants. Myth has it that Hercules, inevitable ally to the gods, came face to face with Giants in Mykonos where he buried them under huge rocks. Mykonos rocky terrain scattered with immense granite masses, truly seems to have been created during a battle among giants.
Nowadays, the island of Mykonos has succeeded in being equally important as Delos was in antiquity: it holds one of the most enviable positions in today’s international tourist market. The natural landscape of the island is recognized widely as one of unique beauty: the arid terrain of low hills, studded with impressive granite rocks comes into an amazing contrast with the turquoise, tranquil waters of its numerous sandy beaches. The local architecture blends in with the land, both in scale and in style. White-washed little “cubes” are scattered all through the country side, whereas the larger town houses, originally owned by seafarers and merchants, are dominant in the main town, by the harbor, facing the NW side of the island. Thanks to the enterprise and business acumen of its inhabitants, there is a solid infrastructure which gives you visitors the opportunity of enjoying an extensive range of high quality services, including 5 star hotels and bungalows, superbly organized beaches and renowned restaurants and clubs.
