San Miguel de Allende (SMA) is in the heart of Mexico and sits between two international airports, both approximately 1.5 hours away by car, and it is also accessible from Mexico City. The city's remoteness is definitely part of its charm!

BJX - Del Bajío International Airport - flights to/from Dallas, Houston, & Chicago.
QRO - International Airport of Queretaro
MEX - Mexico City International Airport - flights to/from most international airports with connecting flights to QRO & BJX. The drive is approximately 3-5 hours to SMA. While flights are often cheaper to Mexico City, we do not recommend driving in from Mexico City (trip time can be quite long due to CDMX traffic).

San Miguel is a pedestrian city with very cheap and safe taxi service, so you will not need a rental car. If you take a taxi within San Miguel, make sure you use a green or white taxi (these are official). Also, make sure you ask the taxi driver what the rate will be to your destination before you get into the taxi. A ride within the city should cost around 30 pesos or 40 pesos at night. If you get quoted higher just ask if they will take less.
