FAQs
Travel & Logistics
1. Should I rent a car?
Most attendees won't need a car during the weekend as the distances between venues are relatively short and Ubers/taxis are plentiful in Buckhead. While parking is free at all Saturday event venues (first 3 hours free at Friday's Welcome Dinner), overnight hotel parking is $28/nt ($38 for valet). There are plenty of restaurant and retail options within walking distance of the hotel as well. So unless you have small children or special needs, a rental car won't be necessary, especially if you are comfortable with the Uber app (if not, find the nearest millennial and ask them for help). UberX from the airport to the hotel cost approx $25-$30. Taxis charge a flat fare around $50 (+ tip).
2. Can I take public transportation?
Look at you attempting to lower your carbon footprint - Al Gore is so proud of you! You absolutely can take MARTA (Atlanta's subway) directly from the airport to the hotel. Buckhead station (on the Red line) is 3 blocks from the Intercontinental. MARTA fare is $2.50/person - can't beat that!
3. How far apart are the venues?
Not far - all events take place within a 5 mile radius of the Intercontinental Hotel. Even more reason to let Uber do the driving for you!
4. Aren't there 2 Capital City Club locations in Atlanta? Which one is the reception at?
Yes, there are - sounds like someone’s done their homework!
We will be at the Brookhaven location. Make sure it's the Brookhaven location you specify when hailing your Uber, inputting location in Google Maps, barking at your Alexa, etc. If you end up downtown, you will be at the wrong party! So don't go downtown. Please.
Shopping & Dining
Shopping:
Buckhead is the retail center of Atlanta - there's no shortage of shopping options. Within a mile, you have Lenox Mall (Macy's, Bloomingdales), Phipps Plaza (Nordstrom, Saks 5th Ave.) and Buckhead Atlanta (Tom Ford, Hermes, Dior).
Dining:
There are restaurants of all types within walking distance of the hotel. Quick serve options include Starbucks, Chick-fil-a, and Jimmy John's - all of which are across the street from the hotel. Want a nice Southern breakfast? Head across the street to The Flying Biscuit. Craving a locals coffee shop? Head south on Peachtree a few blocks to Dancing Goats (next to Sephora). Want surprisingly good Indian food that's both fast and fresh? Across from Octane is NaanStop, where the freshmade naans are filled with your choice of homemade veggies and proteins in a Chipotle-like format (coincidentally, there's a Chipotle next door too). If you're looking to soak up March Madness action, head across the street from the Intercontinental to Industry Tavern, an upscale sports bar with great food. And should you need groceries, Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, and Kroger are all within reasonable walking distance from the Intercontinental.
Looking to have a cocktail before Friday night's Welcome Dinner? Our absolute favorite free Atlanta attraction is the nightly 6pm (sharp! seriously, don't be late or you'll miss it) Champagne Sabering at the St Regis hotel. Yes, free champagne at a 5 star hotel (even for non-hotel guests). Then kick back at the swanky St Regis bar or the patio of King + Duke before walking across the street at 7pm to the Welcome Dinner (it's an easy 2 block walk from the St Regis/K+D). We're not telling you what to do, but that's what we would do if we were you.
