Timing played a key role in the connection that I initially shared with Onyi. When Onyi and I first crossed paths, we were both too busy to have a simple conversation, and we both lost interest in one another very quickly.
Six months later we reconnected, and that was when I sensed there was something unique about him. After our first conversation, I sat on my armchair and literally said ‘wow’. I enjoyed the conversation so much, and before I knew it an hour had passed, so I had to abruptly end the call to leave him wanting more.
Things quickly took a turn in the right direction, and I began to receive daily calls from Onyi on his commute from work, complete with noisy train announcements in the background. I loved and hated it at the same time.
We’d spend hours and hours talking on the phone, and I found in him something I’d never encountered before. I just couldn’t stop talking to him, I felt like a giddy teenager all over again. It took me back to my days in secondary school when T-Mobile had unlimited calls after midnight, and I'd stay up till all hours of the morning chatting. Gosh, there were many times Onyi and I would talk for four or five hours, and every time I would be so sad when it was time to hang up the call, despite the fact that the day had broken.
After a short time, we went on our first date, and it was an unforgettable experience! I felt like I knew him in a previous life. Everything appeared wonderful, almost too good to be true.
The very next month, we began courting. I guess the rest is history!
We initially met about the middle of 2022. We met through a mutual friend and had a very brief conversation over the phone. We were both very busy and could not find time to connect, I guess you can call it “wrong timing”, so I carried on with life.
Fast forward to the beginning of 2023, we reconnected again over a telephone conversation, but this time it was quite different; we couldn’t stop talking to each other, and the chats were intense and profound. We had talked for many hours over several topics, and I still wasn’t exhausted, it felt like I had known her before. It felt like we were old friends catching up after a very long time apart.
After the initial ‘spark,' I found myself calling her every single day on my way home from work, and we would spend several hours on the phone talking to each other. Despite the fact that I had never seen her, I began to enjoy her company and the sound of her sweet voice, and it wasn't long before I began to think to myself, "I think this girl is my girl!"
I asked her out on a date, and we had such a good time; the energy never dropped for a second when we were together. I felt this girl was very special and I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her. Not long after, I asked her to be my girlfriend and the rest is history. Fast forward to today, and I guess they were correct when they said, "when you know, you know". I knew this day was coming, and I'm glad you're sharing it with me!
