Getting There & Where To Stay
South Africa has three main international airports - OR Tambo in Johannesburg (JNB), Cape Town International (CPT), and King Shaka International in Durban (DUR). Our wedding will take place in the Midlands, which is about a 90-minute drive outside of Durban. Depending on your pre and post wedding travel plans, you may wish to fly via Cape Town or Johannesburg (especially those coming from the US - there will be more direct options) and take a short domestic flight for the wedding.
Our recommended itinerary for those looking to make a longer trip would be a few days in Cape Town and the winelands, a few days in Durban and the Midlands for the wedding (duh!), and a few days at a game reserve of your choice for some safari-ing.
Uber is available in Johannesburg, Cape Town & Durban, but will not be available at or around our wedding venue, Brahman Hills. We will be arranging shuttles from Durban to Brahman Hills on the Thursday and Friday (April 14th and 15th) before the wedding - details to follow, but we expect the Thursday shuttle to depart late morning and the Friday shuttle to depart early afternoon. Alternatively, if you'd like to have more flexibility to explore the Midlands on your own, you can rent a car via Avis, Hertz, or Budget at the airport in Durban.
See below for several ideas for places to stay in each city/area. Airbnb, Vrbo, and Booking.com also have great options for house and apartment rentals.
We highly recommend purchasing travel insurance and/or booking with flexible rates due to the unpredictable nature of travel over the last several months.
Too many options to choose from, ranging from international chains to local boutique options! We recommend staying close to the waterfront - Sea Point, Bantry Bay, Clifton & Camps Bay are all great areas.
Brahman Hills (Recommended)
We have reserved the entire venue for the weekend to ensure that those who want to stay on site for the wedding can do so. To book at our group rate, please email Onwaba at: alyssaanddane@brahmanhills.co.za.
Note that there are two options for your stay - traditional hotel rooms or multi-room cottages. The rate, which includes breakfast, is ZAR 2200 per room per night (hotel room or per bedroom in the cottages).
The Oyster Box Hotel
One of South Africa’s most celebrated hotels. Even if you don't stay here, we recommend grabbing a drink at their Lighthouse Bar for great views of the sunset over the Indian Ocean - the scene of Dane & Alyssa's first date!
