How we met

I met Shane in the spring of 2011 at the University of Guelph, my alma mater. Shane came from Wilfrid Laurier University to visit his high school friends who, as fate would have it, happened to live on my floor in residence. In true Shane fashion, he came barreling down my hallway with his signature brand of exuberance. It was difficult not to take notice of his contagious energy. Although at the time, I remember thinking, 'who is this guy!?'

After months of talking nearly every day, and with a bit of liquid courage, I turned to Shane and asked, "are you ever going to ask me to be your girlfriend?" (spoiler: he did!). The date was September 4th, 2011. A day that would come to mean a lot more to us over the years.

The proposal

The date was September 4th, 2019 - our 8 year anniversary - when I ask Liv to marry me.

I proposed on a quiet evening at the Ditmars family cottage where we had celebrated many anniversaries in the past. Liv, and almost everyone we knew, had expected me to propose on our trip to Portugal which we had recently returned from. I didn't, wanting to wait until our anniversary which was always the most special day for us.

So, underneath the most beautiful, endless, golden hour sunset I asked Liv to spend a lifetime of September 4ths together.

September 4th

So much of our love story has been centred around September 4ths. Every year we spend Labour Day weekend, reflecting on the past year and toasting our love. It only seemed right to celebrate our wedding on this day, too!

We look forward to this next chapter as husband and wife and sharing our most special day with the people who helped us get here.
