I moved back to Vegas after graduating at Hawaii Pacific University. I studied for my nursing boards at UNLV where I met this quiet guy who was still kinda new in town. Some coffee and study dates later, I fell for this midwestern stranger who I wasn't sure if he even liked me like that! The rest is history.

I had moved to Las Vegas to attend graduate school at UNLV. Heather and I had first met while studying at the library in the summer of 2014. We exchanged numbers one day and texted here and there. A few months later, we reconnected. I realized I had found not only an inspiring study buddy but potentially more.

Eric asked me out for a cup of coffee a few days before Christmas back in 2014. We instantly connected and found similarities in a love of travel. He was so kind and I never met someone who was so polite and considerate. Must've been that midwestern charm haha. We made many plans after that, from bar hopping, to introducing him to new food, to stargazing in the desert, to hiking in the mountain, to introducing him to my friend circle and spending numerous nights dancing away under the Vegas lights. Every date we had was not like the other, so to me it was like we had many first dates with each other.

Work initially brought Eric to Texas after grad school in 2015. We did long distance for a few months and I eventually followed to Texas but found my first nursing job in Waco while Eric was an hour and a half away in Arlington. We later added our two "children", Vienna and Mochi, to the mix.
A couple years later, we moved in together closer to Dallas. We’ve created an exciting life together and neither of us would change it for anything. It’s hard to summarize the past eight wonderful years in only a few sentence but I couldn’t imagine it with anyone else.

Hawaii always held a special place to both of us. It’s the second place we’ve both called home, and the state we’ve visited the most after Nevada and Illinois. My original plan had been to propose on Heather’s birthday in 2020, but COVID nixed that plan. After we made plans to spend Thanksgiving there in 2021, I knew it had to be done there.
With a ton of help from Heather’s best friends, Charlene and Snyra, I hatched a plan. We decided to spend a few days after Thanksgiving up in North Shore as an early anniversary celebration. A few of her cousin helped scheme a plan to do a family photo session.
I drove us to a spot where I’d arranged a picnic on the beach at Kawela Bay. She began to grow suspicion when it started to rain and I told her we absolutely could not reschedule. The blindfold I gave her didn’t help. Luckily the rain stopped and I’d lead her down to the beach and unblindfolded her. Her cousins were hiding in the trees and were there to help celebrate as well.
Neither of us can recall the speech that followed. It was cheesy and probably too long, but, spoiler alert, she said “Yes”!!!
