Our parents have known each other since well before we were born, so we have always been in each other’s lives. We lived in the same area when we were young and grew up spending time in each other’s homes. Kane would come round to play video games and hang out with my brothers and my sisters, and I would spend time with his sister, Nonny.

There was a period in 2015 or so when we worked in the same area and started taking the bus together in the mornings to work. We started getting to know each other and talking in a different way from that point, but it was short lived.

Kane claims that we went out on a date in that time, but I have no recollection of it whatsoever. To this day, he will not let me live that down. We lost touch pretty much completely from 2016 until one fateful day on July 10th 2021 when he went to my sister, Valerie’s house to drop off some things for his Dad.

Kane asked how I was doing and she told him I was very single and that he should reach out. While he was there, she was messaging me also. She gave me his number and I sent him a “Hi old friend” Whatsapp message. He called me later that day, we spoke for hours on the phone.

It was like no time was lost, and the rest is history! Shout out to Valerie! She really earned that Maid of Honour title. Shortly after that, he asked me out on a date. We went mini golfing. I won. We sat in a park, ate ice-cream and talked.

Almost 9 months later, Kane proposed in my living room, which he had decorated with rose petals, lights and massive “Will You Marry Me?” balloons. It was perfection!
