A Modern Day Love Story

Unlike their parents generation, Kayla and Justin met online. It all started on Instagram.

Kayla had a second job working at a bar in Ottawa, and was friends with one of the bartenders, Alex Harb. Kayla was scrolling through stories and paused when she reached Alex's Instagram story. She caught glimpse of Justin working out with Alex and immediately finding him handsome, she clicked the story tag and landed on his Instagram page. Interested by what she saw, she clicked "follow" and hoped he would message her. Although he followed her back, they had no communication for weeks until New Years 2020. How did Justin start off the conversation you ask? Sending a fire emoji to Kayla's story of her in a stunning pink dress. Unlike most men in the DMs, Justin actually had a chance. They talked for hours and by the next day Justin invited Kayla to his friend's going away house party. They were both nervous. What if she's stuck up? What if he's a douche? All of these worries dissipated the moment they met in person. All night the two played beer pong, flip cup, heads up and by the end of the evening shared their first kiss. This relationship started out with the knowledge that Kayla had plans to move to Australia for a year, and quickly they knew it may only be something casual. March rolls in and the world shuts down for a global pandemic but fate takes over. Kayla's flight to Australia gets canceled and as the days went on they got closer and closer, spending their time isolated in a 2-bedroom apartment.

In 2021, Kayla and Justin bought their first home, bringing their pets, Georgia and Leo, together and quickly adding puppy Freya to the mix. In early summer of 2022, Kayla and Justin went on their first overseas trip together, to beautiful Greece, without their luggage the entire trip. Justin asked Kayla to marry him while overlooking the beautiful cliffside of Santorini.

So why PEI for their wedding you may ask. Well, PEI was the very first vacation Kayla and Justin took together during the pandemic, and have returned every summer since. Justin's grand-parents also now live in PEI.
