The Night Everything Changed

April 29th 2016 was the night that everything changed. I was at the Cowboy lounge in LODO in Denver. Anyone that knows this place knows that it is not the classiest or the best country bar, but it is always a good time.  I was there to dance and have some fun and try to meet people.

On the other hand Brooke was there with her friends. She describes it as a place that she only goes when her friends force her to go.  But luckily, she was convinced to go there that night.

I remember her catching my eye when she was standing at the bar waiting for a drink. I walked up to ask her to dance;  I love dancing to country music and there was something about her that drew me in.  our interaction went a little like this:

Me: Hi. would you like to dance?

Brooke: Nah, you don't know how to dance

Me:  Uhh, yes I do. |*shocked at her response*|

Brooke: Well, you don't know how to country dance and I only country dance!

I assured her I did. She looked back to her friends telling her to go dance and laughing to themselves because they know how difficult Brooke can be. She finally agreed. We went out on the dance floor, I started spinning her around and that was it.  We spent the rest of night dancing and never looked back.

The Other Woman

From there we have only grown together. I had learned to love the other woman that was going to be a huge part of my life, Brooke's pup Nelli. She is a huge part in Brookes life and has become a great part of my life. I miss her whenever I am gone. Sadly she passed away on Easter Sunday 2020. She is sorely missed and her not being there is always very clear.

Similarities and Differences

We have learned that part of what built our relationship is our love for music.  Specifically, the lyrics. We thrive off of finding songs that the lyrics really resonate with us. We also do the same when it comes to other kinds of entertainment. We really enjoy a show called "I'm Sorry" on Netflix. It feels like we are watching our future.

As we have our similarities we also thrive on our differences.

Brooke, is the girl from the Chicago suburbs who moved to Colorado for something different. She's a headstrong stubborn woman who will fight for what is right.

Scott, is the guy from small(ish) town North Dakota who moved to Colorado for work. He's the calm quiet guy who doesn't fight unless absolutely necessary.

We compliment each other perfectly and make up for each others flaws. Surprisingly enough, we do have flaws. :)
