Casual City Walk

Friday, Oct 14th
We plan to meet with everyone who wants to join us around 14h at St. Sava Temple and start walking from there. As mentioned in the section above, we will have a casual stroll and visit some of the following places:
Kalemegdan, Church of St. Sava, Knez Mihailova Street, Republic Square, Residence of Princess Ljubica, National Theatre (from the outside), St. Michael's Cathedral, Stari Dvor (Old Palace), and House of the National Assembly. After we finish our 'walking tour' (between 18-19h), we will go to Skadarlija street and dine in some of the restaurants there (most likely Mali Vrabac - Little Sparrow, or Dva Jelena - Two Deers). After dinner, you can go to splavs (river floating bars) or some popular clubs/bars in case you'd like to party till dawn. :)

What to expect?

We will meet at noon at Republic Square and head to Kalemegdan park.

The first place we plan to visit is the Roman well, which is actually an Austrian water tank built in 1717-1731, but it got that name by mistake. It is 61 meters deep, and its water level is 35 meters. The water is not spring water but atmospheric. The Roman well is located close to the Pobednik (the Winner) monument on the fortress.

The second place is the military bunkers from the time of the information bureau after the Second World War when Yugoslavia, with Tito as the head of the state, was trying to lead its independent socialist future. They were built in 1948 (after the historic NE (no) to Stalin). The bunkers are located about 50 meters behind the Pobednik monument. The temperature there is around 11 degrees Celsius, and they were a military secret until 2008.

The third place is the Austrian gunpowder warehouse, built between 1718-1720. It is located in the lower part of the Belgrade fortress (under the Pobednik monument), near Vojvoda Bojovica boulevard. There are two man-made caves (one officially and the other unofficially open) whose dimensions are about 17*17 meters, and the height is 5-7 m. The first cave is an exhibition of Roman monuments, altars, and sarcophagi, which is also very nice to visit. From the outside, there is a night club "Barutana."

Our last place is the winery in Karađorđeva Street, not far from the Branko bridge. We will visit three lagums (caves) also dug by human hands in the 19th century with the purpose of storing food and wine (it was also the Belgrade pier at that time). The first part of the tour ends here with refreshments such as a glass of local wine or Coca-Cola, and then we head to the boat. :)

What to expect?

An hour and a half tour on the Sava and Danube rivers will sail under all six river bridges in Belgrade to Ada Ciganlija, Savamala, Belgrade Waterfront, Belgrade Fair, and rafts. The road will pass by the fortress of War Island (Ratno ostrvo), the confluence of Sava and Danube rivers, Nebojša Tower, and finally, to Lido and the beginning of Zemun. Drinks can be brought or bought there on the ship (domestic version of the beer, wine, brandy, Coke, Fanta). Food is not served on the boat.
