Our journey together began with a phone call three years ago and has led us to planning this momentous wedding together. Shailja and I were introduced to each other through the infamous network of Indian parents.

Shailja was finishing her final year of dental school in North Carolina, and I was in the middle of my Anesthesiology residency in Philadelphia. From exams to rotations to 24 hr calls to fellowship preparations, our lives left little time for cultivating a relationship. Despite it all, that phone call turned into regular Facetime dates. Texts turned to watching our favorite shows together.

The long distance fostered the opportunity to explore new cities together. As our relationship deepened, I knew I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her. I took the plunge on one knee on a rainy day surrounded by beautiful flowers to make her mine forever.

Nisarg's proposal was perfect. It was a rainy weekend in Philadelphia, but we continued with our plans of seeing the Love statue, eating at our favorite restaurant, and exploring more of the city together.
However, when Nisarg suggested that we drive an hour out of the city on a rainy day to visit the Longwood Gardens together, I started to become a little suspicious.

There were many beautiful sights to see in the garden despite the rain. A waterfall with a rocky bank nearby caught our eye, so we decided to climb onto the rocks. I was enjoying the view when Nisarg turned to me with a smile on his face and said, "I love going on adventures with you, let's have more of them. Will you marry me?"
