Our recommendations...
There are 2 main areas to stay in Altea itself, the Old Town and the beach. You won´t find lots of hotels or holiday complexes, most accommodation is privately owned apartments and there are some good boutique hostels. There are private villas up in the hills overlooking the bay, and lots of options for all budgets on airbnb and booking.com.
Hotel Cap Negret (Big 4* hotel on the beach)
Lots of our guests will be staying here. It´s on the edge of town 10-15 mins walk to the centre of Altea right on the beach with a very cool vibe. A bit of a wedding hub! There is a big pool area and beach bar. Cheaper to book direct than via booking.com.
Hotel La Serena (boutique hotel in the centre)
Cute & chic boutique hotel with pool & spa in the whitewashed streets of Altea Bellagardia area. Near the beach, high street and PlantShack! Great for a romantic break.
Altea Old Town (Cute Apartments)
Beautiful and hilly, great for restaurants & bars. Altea Old Town is gorgeous and you will want to visit at some point during your stay. There are lots of typically Spanish and quirky apartments on Airbnb. It is a 5-10 minute STEEP walk up and down to the beach, just so you know! But a great atmosphere at night and the full Altea experience! You can also get a taxi here.
The Beach (Hostels & Apartments)
Altea beachfront is full of cafes and restaurants with apartments and hostels above. Try Hostal Casa del Mar or Hostal San Miguel for budget options, and Airbnb for private apartments.
Villas (Altea Hills & Beyond)
Most villas are up in Altea Hills, an exclusive urbanisation overlooking the bay. Beautiful views up here and about a 10 minute drive to the beach, restaurants, and Altea centre. You need to be self sufficient as there are no amenities nearby. Find villas on Airbnb & Booking.com.
Alicante
Our nearest airport is Alicante (ALC), 65km south of Altea (approx 45-50 mins drive).
Taxis / Minibuses (45-50 minutes)
AIRPORT TAXIS cost 100€ each way to Altea for 1-4 people, you can just jump in one outside arrivals.
PRIVATE TAXIS & MINIBUSES are much cheaper and can be booked online with Beniconnect up to 24 hours before:
- Standard Taxi 1-4 people: 75€ each way
- 6 seater Minibus: 100€ each way
- 8 seater Minibus: 108€ each way
- 12 seater Minibus: 115€ each way
- 16 seater Minibus: 120€ each way
Car Hire (45-50 minutes drive)
It´s a relatively easy drive on the motorway from Alicante Airport to Altea. The cheapest broker is rentalcars.com and they offer lots in-airport rental companies which you find directly as you come out of arrivals. Remember you need a credit card (not debit card) in the name of the lead driver with at least €1000 free for the deposit.
Leave the motorway at Junction 64 for Altea and turn right at the traffic lights opposite the 5* Vila Gadea Hotel. This will take you into Altea from the north and past the Hotel Cap Negret which is on your left.
Shared transfer (2 hours - 18€pp)
Beniconnect also runs EXPRESS CONNECT shared transfers for 18€pp. They drop off at various hotels along the way. You need to enter the name of a hotel to be dropped off at, not private apartments. Book onine.
Train (2 hours 30 - 11€ pp)
You can get the train & tram to Altea from Alicante with 1 change in Benidorm. It´s very slow! But cheap and beautiful scenery if you have the time. You need to get a taxi from the Airport to Alicante Train Station (Approx 12€). Train fare is less than 5€.
Get off at ALTEA for the beach/port end. GARGANES for the town/north beach. CAP NEGRET for Hotel Cap Negret.
