The bride

I was born and raised in Tehran, Iran. Had a lovely life full of unique experiences. I moved to NYC in my late 20s.

I am warm, playful and loyal. I have a zest for life. I dream big.

I live in THE SECULAR WORLD.

I graduated from engineering school and have been working at BNP Paribas for 14 years in the financial security department, so make sure that any wedding gift you give me doesn’t violate sanctions and anti money laundry laws ;)

One of so many quotes I like : "Beautiful days don't come to you, you must walk towards them"

And if you still like to know more about me … I am a Leo!

why America?

"A journey of thousand miles begin with a single step"

Well mine was a significant step .... In 2006, while pursuing my career as a software engineer and building a life in Iran, I won the Green Card Lottery (yes! such a thing exists!!!)

I packed 20+ yrs of memories and life experiences into two suitcases, landed in NYC and started all over again.

5 years later I became a US citizen.

7 years after that, I met Ephraim.

The Groom

I was a sharped dressed Bar Mitzvah boy (as the above pic proves)!

I was born and raised in the suburbs of NYC

I'm first generation American (mom is from Israel, dad is from Europe)

I disappointed my parents by not going to medical school and instead went to work on Wall Street

I wonder what Freud would say since my mom and the woman I’m going to marry share the same birthday (and many other things!)

Sahar likes

Love is the center of my life (which should be evident to anyone who reads Hebrew)

I travel to realize the limitation of my own views, to have something to talk about and to have something to look back upon

I like adventures to raise my tolerance for uncertainty

I am a massive foodie!

More Likes? …. Socrates, Malbec, Elizabeth Taylor, Lavender , Soccer (to watch) , Backgammon (might have lost a few times to Ephraim) , Angela Merkel, Jazz and Pomegranates

Ephraim likes

Bruce Springsteen (maybe a bit too much?)

Sahar’s coffee

Traveling

Scuba diving

Good friends

Bagels and lox on Sunday morning

Fesenjan

Ephraim's Parents

Contrary to popular belief, Dvora and Alfred did not meet on JDate! However, they have been married for almost 60 years, which is a major milestone that most couples are unlikely to surpass. Dvora and Alfred first met in Israel but their romance didn’t start until a few years later when they met again in NYC. Dvora was visiting NYC after completing her military service in Israel. Alfred had moved to NYC from Europe after the war. Alfred “popped the question” relatively quickly (can you blame him??) and the resulting marriage has produced two children, two grandchildren, and many memories of amazing experiences throughout the world.

Sahar's Parents

Maryam (deceased) and Behrooz met in Tehran. They met while they were both working for the same bank and (years later) eventually admitted that their interoffice romance made them less productive employees!

Three years later they got married and soon after they had me, their first and only child.

Unfortunately my mother passed away from cancer 7 years ago but I know she’ll be looking down and smiling at me during the wedding.

My father still lives in Tehran.

How did we get here?

We met on an online dating site called The League in December 2017. Our first date was at the Whitby Bar.

Who would have thought an Iranian Muslim and an American Jew would have hit it off!

Neither did we, which probably allowed us to skip the typical first date conversations and have a great and meaningful first date.

Our second date was in Hudson...second dates can be awkward enough but this one included Sahar's family!

Ephraim obviously passed the test and the rest is history.....

Sahar eventually moved in with Ephraim, but as the Israeli border police discovered during our recent visit there, Ephraim can’t remember exactly when Sahar moved in!

We chose the wedding date of 10/10/20 so Ephraim can easily remember his anniversary!

I said YES

On December 26th, 2019 at 8:30 am, Ephraim proposed!!!!!

He did it at our house in Hudson right near where our wedding will take place

When he did Sahar was crying so many tears of happiness that she didn't answer him at first. He eventually got tired of kneeling in the cold, wet snow so he asked "is that a yes?"

Sahar will give him her final answer on their wedding day!
