Seattle, WA
Seattle Tacoma International Airport (SEA) is the major airport serving the Seattle area. It is a hub for Alaska and Delta and most other airlines have at least some presence. There should be a number of options for flying in.
The groom recommends using matrix.itasoftware.com for help in finding flights and then booking via the airlines' sites themselves.
If you arrive via plane, you can either take a taxi to the city or use the light rail system. Taxis will run around $50 to get to a hotel downtown. The light rail is $2.75 per person for a one way trip. The trains run fairly frequently but do stop around midnight.

The Bride's Perfect Day in Seattle
BEST OF SEATTLE – INSIDER’S EDITION
9:00 AM – You’ve got a big day ahead of you, so start your day off early (but not too early) at CAFÉ LIETO (1st and Stewart) where they serve some mean biscuits (with or without gravy) and delicious espresso.
9:45 AM – Grab your to-go cup and head to 2nd and Pike (Target) where you’ll get picked up for the bus tour (don’t be late, Charles WILL yell at you).
10:00 AM – SEATTLE QWIK TOUR (seattleqwiktour.com/) is my favorite bus tour in Seattle and the easiest way to see a bunch of cool neighborhoods. For $33, you get a 90-minute tour with Charles. Don’t be off put by his wacky sense of humor- by the end of the tour you’ll wish you were best friends!
12:30 PM – After the tour get off at PIONEER SQUARE. I love this neighborhood for its historic vibes and red-brick buildings.
12:45 PM – If it’s a weekday, check out BAKEMAN’S (2ND and Cherry) for the most delicious turkey sandwich. Fresh roasted turkey on fresh baked bread- make sure you add the cranberry sauce! They might bark at you to order faster, but it’s all part of the charm. If it’s a weekend, check out any of the awesome pubs/restaurants around Pioneer Square. Don’t wander too far because you need to be on time for the…
2:00 PM – UNDERGROUND TOUR (undergroundtour.com/index.html) This 75-minute tour runs every hour on the hour and is fascinating! Hear how the city was built from beneath the sidewalks ($18 for adults).
3:15 PM – After the tour, head to COLUMBIA TOWER (4th and Columbia). On the walk, you’ll get to experience our steep streets first-hand. Columbia Tower is the tallest skyscraper in the city and for only $12.50, you get a better view than the Space Needle (the Needle will set you back $20). Open daily www.skyviewobservatory.com/#/tickets. Or for the price of a cup of coffee, you can see the view from the 40th Floor Starbucks.
4:15 PM – Head towards 1st and Pike (whichever way the stoplights take you) to see PIKE PLACE MARKET. The market is a must-see if it’s your first time in Seattle. I don’t particularly love spending tons of time here, but it’s cool to walk briefly through the first floor (fish markets and crafts).
5:00 PM – For more high-end shopping, PACIFIC PLACE is the place to go (6th and Pine). More great shops can be found on 5th and 6th Ave (south of Pine).
6:00 PM – When you’ve had your fill of shopping, it’s time for dinner! If you’re looking for fantastic creative seafood, check out BLUEACRE SEAFOOD (7th and Olive Way). For something a little less pricey but still amazing, TAPHOUSE GRILL (6th and Pike) has standard American fare and 160 beers on tap.
7:45 PM – Walk (if you’re feeling up to it) or grab a cab to the ferry terminal (Alaskan Way and Marion). Check the schedule because ferries only run on the hour in the evenings (www.wsdot.wa.gov/ferries/schedule/scheduledetail.aspx?departingterm=7&arrivingterm=3&roundtrip=true).
8:10 PM – FERRY TO BAINBRIDGE. The ride is about 30 minutes one-way and for $8 roundtrip, you can’t beat the skyline views! With the sun setting around 9 PM end of May, you’ll be able to catch the view in daylight and sunset on the way back. There’s not much to see on Bainbridge, so I recommend just getting off and get right back on again when you get to Bainbridge.
9:15 PM – Back in Seattle. Still up for more? Check out PIKE PUB & BREWERY (1ST and Pike) for awesome local beers or ELYSIAN BAR (2nd and Pike) for cocktails. Or call it a day – you just saw the BEST of Seattle in one day (from one local’s perspective). :)
The Groom's Perfect Day in Seattle
The 4 Cs of Seattle in a day: Coffee, Culture, Cuisine, & Cocktails
Most people know that I have a passion for coffee. So the perfect day in Seattle begins with a great cup of coffee. I would recommend getting a Vacuum Pot at Seattle Coffee Works (107 Pike Street). This is a bit pricey and does take some time but I thinks it is worth it. They also have great espresso drinks too.
All that coffee surely would work up an appetite. I would suggest you venture to a French bakery in Pike Place Market named Le Panier (1902 Pike Place). Their pastries are really delicious and once you are fueled up with caffeine and sugar you can enjoy the rest of Pike Place Market. It can be a mad house but there is always something new and interesting to see.
Once done with the Market, I would suggest take a trip to the U District of Seattle. This is the area where the University of Washington is located. It really is a beautiful campus. I would recommend touring the campus and then people watching on “the Ave” which is really named University Way. Again take time to enjoy a coffee based beverage. Sureshot (4505 University Way NE) serves white coffee espresso drinks. They are always delicious. After enjoying your beverage and people watching grab some food at Thai Tom (4543 University Way NE). This is a cheap and delicious Thai restaurant. It does get crowded but is worth it.
So at this point you should be more in tune with the local culture but haven’t really done anything cultural. To make yourself feel more cultured, I would go to the EMP (325 5th Avenue N), the local music museum funded by Paul Allen also known as a place for Paul to keep all the stuff he bought with his Microsoft billions. The exhibits are cool and you can even learn to play an instrument on the top floor. You can also check out the Science Fiction Museum for free after. That is a cool place to nerd out about movie props.
It should be time for dinner. I would go to one of Tom Douglas’ joints for a nice meal (tomdouglas.com/). The Palace Kitchen (2030 Fifth Ave) is one of my favorites but you can’t go wrong at any of his places.
With a full belly, I would recommend taking public transit to the next stop: Safeco Field (1250 1st Ave S) to watch the Mariners play and get your needed sports intake for the day. They are doing series against the Cleveland Indians around the wedding so you should be able to catch a game. One word of caution, although it will be May it can get chilly in the stadium. A jacket, hoodie, or blanket may serve you well.
What to do to cap off an awesome day and hopefully a Mariners’ win? A nice cocktail would sound perfect to me. I would recommend ordering a Milk N’ Cookies at Canon (928 12th Ave). Seattle is in the middle of a huge craft cocktail craze so if Canon is too crowded you can find lots of options to get something tasty on Capitol Hill.
