The Beginning

We initially met almost eleven years ago at a Christmas party through Nick's cousin, Johanne who played matchmaker to hook us up! Fun fact: Johanne originally wanted to set up Nick with my twin sister, Deborah!

Shoutout to my cousin Johanne for putting me on to my wife-to-be! I remember when she told me about Sarah's Christmas party and saying, "there are these beautiful twins I want you to meet!." I was like, "let me step out and see what Joahnne is talking about." Once I got Sarah's AIM screen name, it was history from there.

Finally Official!

We spent almost a full year getting to know each other before we finally made it official on May 23rd, 2010 (hence, our wedding weekend date!). Here's a picture from that day on Nick's graduation!

We took that whole summer to spend time with each other prior to heading off to our respective colleges, Providence College (Sarah) and Colby College (Nick) that fall.

The Journey

Little did we know that the four years we spent long distance in college would be laying the foundation for our relationship that would ultimately remain long distance for a total of six years. It has been a challenging journey and our relationship has been tested, but we persevered. Despite the difficulties, we knew that the love we had for each other was something truly worth waiting for. Following our years apart, we finally moved to LA together in 2016 and eventually planted roots in DC in 2017.

Sarah is a person I strive to be like every day and I am lucky to call her my woman. She is loving, intelligent, witty, independent and of course, beautiful. It is interesting to analyze how different we are as people; in terms of the way we think, we are polar opposites. However, Sarah's view of the world has taught me a different perspective of life that I definitely appreciate because I have learned a lot about her, myself, and life itself.

She Said Yes!

We got engaged on the night of December 8, 2018. Nick and I had discussed getting married for a while and knew it was on the horizon for 2018, but on the day it actually happened, I literally had no idea! On the week of the engagement, Nick planned a bunch of little activities just for the two of us. On Friday, he planned a back-to-back movie binge at our local theater where we stuffed ourselves with all of our favorite junk food, candy, and cuddled under our jackets the whole time! For Saturday, he purchased tickets for us to go to a comedy show that evening, but for the day, Nick planned for us to have a "Spa Day" together at my favorite nail salon. Following our morning of pampering, we stumbled into our favorite local restaurant for a little boozy brunch. After brunch, we walked home a little buzzed from the champagne. I was more than ready to just kick back and relax for the rest of the afternoon before the show later that evening, but Nick quickly realized that if he didn’t think of something that I was not going to get up until it was time for the show! He devised a plan to get us out of the house before I started to “turn down” for the afternoon. He suggested we go into DC to bar hop until the show and I begrudgingly agreed seeing how excited he was. We went to a few bars and enjoyed each other’s company – just the two of us. We decided to walk to one more bar before heading to the show, and stumbled upon this random bar in Dupont Circle. Neither of us thought anything of it as we walked in because it was freezing out, and we needed to warm up. We soon realized that this was a gay bar, which I found funny because the men there kept hitting on Nick! Nick started getting antsy again and wanted to head to the show a bit early. I was not ready to leave yet, however, he was insistent so we left. We started walking down the street towards the venue and he just stops and starts hugging me. He started by telling me that he loves me and asked how do I know that I love him. I can’t remember how I responded exactly, but I know it was a funny little answer as I did not consider this to be a serious moment. After my response, he tells me that he wants to spend the rest of his life with me and then “The Moment” happened! Nick reached into his pocket for the ring, and I immediately realized what he was about to do! He got down on one knee and asked me (even after I had ran away from him because I was in shock!)! Of course, I said yes!

The Marathon Continues...

Finally, we are so excited to be exchanging vows as well as celebrate our ten-year anniversary in front of our friends and family Memorial Day Weekend in Cancún.
