We do recommend staying in central Rethymno for the wedding, as transport organised to take guests to and from the wedding venue will be from Rethymno Old Town itself.
Rethymno is made up of two main areas. Firstly, the Old Town which is built on the beautiful Venetian port and is made up of narrow winding streets and Greek tavernas.
Alternatively there is the tourist strip which is located on the long sandy beach and is 2-3km from the Old Town. It is built up with resorts but has the advantage of access to more amenities.
If you choose to stay outside of walking distance in these main areas (e.g. in a larger villa) you may need to organise a car to take you into town.
