What to pack

October is a picture-perfect time to visit San Diego. Expect temperatures in the 70s Fahrenheit (20s Celcius). It is very sunny during the fall, so remember to pack a hat and sunglasses. Also, consider bringing your beach gear — the water will be warm enough for swimming!

Flights

San Diego International Airport (SAN)

The nearest airport is SAN, which has direct flights from most major cities in the US and Canada. It is a 15-minute car ride to La Jolla (~$30 on Uber).

Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)

LAX is the largest airport on the West Coast and is a 2-hour drive from La Jolla. Another option is to take a scenic train ride from LAX to SAN.

Things to Do

You have all day to explore on Saturday before evening festivities!

Beaches

Our number one recommendation for SD. Some of our favorites:

Del Mar Beach (Powerhouse Park): Where Mollie grew up! Surf rentals available!

Pacific Beach: Has the iconic ocean pier and a super hip neighborhood named after it.

Torrey State Pines Park and Beach: Combine a hike with some beach time. See the unique (i.e. endangered) Torrey pine tree on the trails while trekking down to the beach.

Windansea Beach: Some beautiful rock formations and scenery here — it’s where we took our engagement photos!

Taquerias

Fish tacos and California burritos are our favorites. Here are some places where you can try for yourselves:

Rudy’s Taco Shop in Solana Beach

Roberto’s Mexican Food in Del Mar

The Taco Stand in La Jolla

Taco Surf in Pacific Beach

La Jolla Cove

The seals and sea lions are reason alone to visit La Jolla Cove!

There is the La Jolla Cove Beach with tidepools to poke around. The beach is the entrance to La Jolla Underwater Park, which you can rent kayaks or snorkeling gear to explore.

If you prefer to enjoy the coastline from afar, perhaps while eating tiny sandwiches, tea time at La Valencia may be more up your alley. There is also great shopping in the area.

Big Attractions

Finally, there are several major tourist attractions in San Diego:

Balboa Park
San Diego Zoo
SeaWorld
LegoLand
