Taylor & BJ’s Wedding
May 14, 2022

For those that don't know, our engagement story almost didn't happen. On the morning of New Years Eve my then boyfriend Bj asked if I wanted to go out to dinner with our friends Rachel and Travis. His excuse was that our friends wanted to hang out since at their wedding a couple weeks prior we were unable to really spend time with them. Little did he know, I was in a bad mood because of work and I wanted to finish my annual New Years Eve cleaning. Of course I didn't want to miss a chance to spend time with our friends, so I reluctantly agreed. See, I started out with an attitude and almost blocked a blessing. So from there, I kicked it into high gear and finished work while still stressing. But Bj being who he is kept his cool the entire time. He jumped in to finish our cleaning and run errands for me while I fussed over work and over what I would wear. Side note, I was this close to putting on jeans and a t-shirt! (I know, I know) So later that night, we were finally on our way to the the restaurant... Late! I should've been happy, but.... I couldn't get my heel buckled. That was the last straw for me and I wanted to go home! Bj was actually willing to turn around but I didn't want to disappoint him and ruin his New Years Eve. Again, Bj continued to be calm and understanding. Eventually we got to the restaurant, shoes buckled, no jeans, and in better spirits. Once we arrived at the restaurant, our friends were already there and waiting on our table, because we were late (as usual haha). Our friend Travis suggested changing tables to a cute booth on the bar side of the restaurant. His wife Rachel then sprung up and snapped saying "IT'S NOT ABOUT YOU TONIGHT" to Travis. Granted, I never saw Rachel do this (she's actually really flexible and cool all the time) so I thought it was weird, but let it go. (Obviously I missed that clue) After some drinks at the bar, we were sat at our table in the middle of the room. (That's important later) When we ordered food, Bj and Rachel suggested that the couples split a plate. Now that's unusual because we NEVER do that, and I WAS STARVING! But I was still in a mood slightly, so I reluctantly agreed and let it go. Mind you, it's almost 11:00pm at this point in our night so for the upcoming events that I had NO CLUE about, it made sense. So we ate, drank, and were merry as per usual with our friends. Around 11:50pm our server starts to bring dessert. Now, normally this isn't unusual, except, WE DIDN'T ORDER DESSERT! So he placed a beautiful brownie a la mode in front of Bj, Travis, and Rachel (which is also my favorite dessert). I'm shocked and a little upset, because I didn't get to order dessert. I ask BJ "When did you order that and why didn't they didn't ask me?" He totally ignores what I said so now I'm really irritated. (Y'all.... I was blindsided, give me a break) So after pouting for 2.5 seconds, I see a humongous plate out of the corner of my eye. What is it you ask? MY DESSERT! I was so ready for this brownie I ignored the message on the plate and the fact that our friends and the ENTIRE restaurant had their phones out and ready to record and/or take pictures. I go to pick up my spoon and I FINALLY read the question on the plate as you see in the picture above. I read it, and had some choice words of confusion. Then I looked next to me to ask BJ if it was a joke. (Before you say anything, he absolutely would prank me like this) As I looked, HE WAS ON ONE KNEE WITH A RING BOX! And of course I had MORE choice words of confusion. (HAHAHA) But in that moment I felt like a fool in the best way. He went through ALL this trouble, my bad attitude, and my lack of enthusiasm, just to make sure we brought in the new year as an engaged couple. As I screamed "HECK YES" soon after we were bought our flutes of champagne to toast to the New Year, and our new lives together.
