Like all good Catholic couples, Patrick and I met at Mass. Perhaps even less shocking, it was through creating music that our friendship began. Patrick played the organ while Sarah sang in the choir for our on campus Catholic Masses in Benton Chapel. Despite Sarah's obvious charm and good looks, their relationship began as a hesitant friendship, where they bonded over a mutual love of musical theatre and great Catholic hymns.
Spring 2014-Spring 2015
After a semester of singing together at University Catholic Masses, Sarah decided to join the Vanderbilt University Concert Choir, of which Patrick was a member. Now, instead of one day a week at Mass, Sarah saw Patrick three days or more. Their friendship grew, as they found more in common and spent more time together outside of Mass, at Choir Dinners and parties, choir trips to Washington DC and Gatlinburg, Tennessee, and concerts.
October 10, 2015
Finally, after bonding on a trip to Gatlinburg, Tennesee, Patrick asked Sarah out on their first date. They went to Amerigo's for Italian food (and anyone who knows Sarah knows she loves Italian more than anything), followed by walking around Centennial Park.
May 2016-May 2019
After dating for less than a year, Patrick moved to Madison, Wisconsin for a job with EPIC. Despite the distance, Patrick and Sarah continued to date, meeting up for long weekends in Wisconsin, Nashville, and everywhere in between. Finally, in May 2019, Patrick accepted a remote job with EPIC and moved back down to Nashville, where Sarah was finishing her graduate degree in audiology.
October 11, 2019
Finally, on October 11, 2019, Patrick got down on one knee and asked Sarah to spend forever with him! Our friend James Decker played the guitar, while Patrick sang Sarah the song "Lover" by Sarah's favorite singer, Taylor Swift. Of course, she said yes!
