Getting Around Highlands
Highlands is a small town with no Uber or ride-share options. If you plan to explore outside of the downtown area, we highly recommend a rental car for those traveling from afar.
Whiteside Mountain Trail
A landmark in the Nantahala National Forest, Whiteside Mountain rises to an elevation of 4,930 feet. The mountain’s cliffs look like sheets of ice draped across the mountain. A moderate two-mile loop trail takes you on top of sheer 750-ft. high cliffs with breathtaking views. The trailhead is a 10 minute drive from town.
