In October 2019, Soham and I planned to take a trip to Kauai for our one year anniversary. We had talked about getting engaged, but I didn't think it would happen for several more months. I sent him a list before the trip of everything he needed to remember to pack. As we got on the flight, I jokingly went through the list and ended by asking, "Did you pack the ring?" Soham had a look of panic in his eyes briefly and played it off by saying that he thought he had actually forgotten something. Little did I know that he had been planning the proposal for awhile and the ring was buried deep in his carry-on bag. On our second day in Hawaii, Soham kept reminding me of the timeline of our day, which is very unusual for him. He told me to make sure I was ready to go to dinner and take pictures by the beach by 5:30. He also kept talking about dressing up and how great this picture was going to look on his Instagram (which he really cares nothing about). I was starting to get a little suspicious as Soham rushed me to finish getting ready, but as we started walking down to the beach, I looked at his pockets and thought there was no way he could have hidden a ring box without a jacket. When we got down to the beach, a photographer was taking pictures of the shoreline, but there was a wedding on the beach and lots of other people so it didn't immediately raise a flag. Soham took my phone and started taking pictures of me (they're the worst pictures ever). I turned around to find someone else to take our photo together. When I looked back around at Soham, he was down on one knee asking me to marry him. I think I said, "Of course!" The photographer was there to capture the whole moment and do a mini-engagement session with us as we celebrated! Soham planned the whole proposal out perfectly and had even flown to Dallas a few weeks before to meet my dad to ask him for his blessing.
