Our journey began in summer of 2006, on the campus of Fisk University in Nashville, TN, through mutual friends. We established a friendship a decade ago, and now we are planning a lifetime together! Our love and affection towards each other carried us through the years of ups and downs, twist and turns, triumphs and setbacks that ultimately led us to Paris, France on July 2nd, 2018, to celebrate the new beginning of our journey of becoming ONE!
The proposal
Abiola loves to travel. Last summer, we went to Europe together, for the first time as a couple. Tasia had no idea this will eventually be a life-changing trip and experience! Abiola quietly master planned everything - a wonderful summer vacation, and an amazing surprise proposal. With just a few weeks prior to the proposal, Abiola researched and hired a photographer based in Paris, Antoine Monfajon, who helped plan and capture our special moment. The morning of July 2nd started early for us in Paris. Tasia was told that we were going to a morning awards reception for one of Abiola’s cousins meeting up with us from London. Little did Tasia know the “award reception” would be for her. All dressed, we hopped in a taxi and headed over to the Eiffel Tower while taking selfies per Abiola’s request.
However, the request was for a reason, Abiola sent the selfie of us to the photographer prior to our arrival so that we could be easily identified, as we have never met Antoine, the photographer. We arrived and walked around for a few minutes while waiting for Abiola’s (imaginary) cousin to meet before the awards reception started. While waiting Abiola asked Tasia to turn around and face the Eiffel Tower, so she did. Tasia thought the request was normal because he often takes photos of her. But, this time it would be with a special twist…He alerted her and said” OK I got it”, “you can turn around now”. Tasia turned and BOOM! Abiola was on one knee and asked Tasia to marry him! And Tasia yelled, YES BOO! With camera clicks in the background and a film crew from the TV station, France24, recording our special moment.
13 years and counting, we are still keeping LOVE tabs on each other!
