Our Story

As is becoming more common in the 21st century, Julia and Cory met online. HOWEVER, their love story happens to be one of perfect circumstance. Both had been “against” online dating but found themselves in a new city and thought it would be a good way to meet like-minded people in Toronto. Expecting to go on a million dates to find someone they wanted to invest more time and attention to, they were surprised to have hit the jackpot on their first date with one another. At first, Julia thought Cory was out of her league and Cory thought Julia talked a lot. But with their immediate connection and deep conversations, “keeping it cool” by trying to space out their hangouts didn’t really work. They were inseparable.

Julia will say that there were a series of moments that told her that Cory was THE ONE. But if she’s being really honest, he had her at putting ketchup on his poutine. It sounds obvious that it was important for Julia to have her family love Cory and visa-versa, but being as close as she is with them, it really WAS a big deal. Luckily (and not surprisingly, if you know Cory at all), that went off without a hitch…which is actually saying a lot, if you know her sister (who can be a tough sell). But what REALLY solidified Julia’s love for Cory was when she met his family. She was thrown into the “McGregor Madness” and felt relieved that they were her kind of people. She was instantly embraced and told: “You’re the first girl Cory has ever brought home and you are perfect for him! Now let’s go get a drink!” Cory deciding to bring Julia home was for a few reasons: yes, he knew that she would be the one to unconditionally love and support him and most likely fit well with his family, but he also had to be sure she could have fun and hold her own during "garage parties". And if you know Julia, you’d know she was happy to have a reason to whip out her hillbilly jig. They thought their love story was complete...

BUT THEN CAME LEO. After having dated only a year, they decided to rescue a dog, who is now affectionately called “Weiner Man”… and if you’ve ever met him, you understand why. Not only did Leo bring a lot of stress…I mean joy…to their lives, but he also taught them a lot about compromise and how to work as a team; something they want and commit to doing for the rest of their lives. So, Leo gave Cory permission to propose to Julia with her grandmother’s wedding ring (ok…Julia’s parents had something to do with that too) and he pulled it off in Owen Sound, where she obviously said YES!

Fast-forward to now, after two wedding date deferrals (thanks COVID-19), they are READY and EXCITED to officially get their marriage-on!
