Such great pictures!!!  Still remember the day so well.  Remember my mother and I meeting the wife of one of your dad's co-workers.  Remember the pink and white vertically stripped dress I wore.  Wonderful memories!

HAPPY 50TH ANNIVERSARY JOANNE & FREDERICK!!! What do I say to honor the two people that have been my longest-time friends? You two were my most loved and inspirational friends since we were all in our 20’s in Arcata/Eureka. I learned so much from both of you then, and throughout the years. To me, you have always been the model for what a marriage should be: not in an overly-sentimental “Hallmark” way, but in a solid, down-to-earth, open, respectful, and lovingly understanding way. Can you believe it has been almost 50 years that we have been friends? Many years could pass between visits, but it has always seemed that time had not changed our friendship. I know you have been an inspiration to all of your many friends and family. Thanks for being my friends. Mark and I have so enjoyed our visits with you over the past 30 of these years. To me in class she did speak.
Friendship sparked when we did meet.
Tall and slender, long dark hair.
Full of life she did care!

Neuro anatomy created havoc!
But calm Joanne would not have it!

She towered over me,
Me, 5’4” basically.
Mutt and Jeff you might say,
Mismatched in many a way.

Joanne was poised, statured with grace,
I was a hippie type-bohemian lace.

The name Joanne means “God is gracious.”
Moving to Tacoma, proved them audacious.

Frederick , Joanne with calm resolve.
A beautiful couple, continued...evolved.

Frederick means “peaceful ruler,”
He is a straight shooter! (No guns involved).

They took me in as a homeless student.
I know they questioned, “ was it prudent?”

I enjoyed fresh garden pickins’
With my internship, the plot thickens.

Frederick and Joanne purchased a boat
And launched it in Puget Sound afloat.
They awakened me on a Saturday morn,
Caught my first salmon, not long after it was born.
(Regulation size!)

Experienced my first earthquake in their home.
Dishes shaking, scared to the bone.

Learned peanut butter on pancakes was a treat!
To this day...this taste can’t be beat!!

Krishna, the feline, shy and meek,
Slept by my head, cheek to cheek.

Those are some memories I hold fondly,
Of a marriage that was never a quandary!!

Fifty years is such a long time, yet it passes so quickly. In the early years of our relationship, Frederick and I had great opportunities to build our relationship through our Alaska adventures. There were so many memorable stories with fishing, boating, and animal encounters. Imagine our surprise when a 500 Kodiak bear crossed the river and started to directly towards us. But both Nita and I particularly enjoyed the early days of our relationship with both of you two. It was the Leavenworth trips, the wine tasting parties, the pool parties and even the murder mystery parties that brought us together. Kids have a way of enriching relationships and we watched with great happiness the marriages of first Eric and then Katherine. Those weddings were so fun and creative. How did you get the International Space Station to fly over Eric’s wedding and how did you plan for such a beautiful Vancouver evening for Katherine’s wedding? And it was so fun to see the joy and pride in your eyes as both children were married.

It was a recent event that took our admiration of Joanne and Frederick to another level. On Election Evening 2018, Nita and I were watching the election returns on television. The congressional race between Dr. Kim Schrier and her opponent was hotly contested. Frederik, and especially Joanne, put an enormous of amount of time, energy, and money to support their candidate, Dr. Schrier. During the televised election returns the local station reported on the Schrier race (which she had won) and she was thanking her supporters. Joanne and Frederick appeared on camera, walked to Dr. Schrier and hugged her, congratulating her. It was obvious that Dr. Schrier had an immense amount of appreciation for Joanne and Frederick. And we have so much pride for our Joanne and Frederick, who immersed themselves in an important race for the good of this country, this community and their friends. Thank you so much Joanne and Frederick. We love you.

Happy 50th anniversary to you both!! What a wonderful look back!! I always remember your hair, Joanne, in the 70's.
