Cheikh and Janet’s Love Story began on the 5 Train in Manhattan, almost 2 weeks after Janet made the big move from Texas to the "Empire State". After an unusual encounter with a stranger on the train, Janet decided to change carts and two stops later, Cheikh enters the train on the same cart. As fate would have it, Janet and Cheikh both locked eyes and smiled at each other simultaneously. Cheikh ended up standing right next to where Janet was sitting but since she was still apprehensive about the encounter in the other cart, she tried to avoid making any further eye contact. He decided to introduce himself. Janet shared with him that she was new to the city and after a friendly conversation he asked her for her number. Janet declined and said she had a boyfriend...this was a lie.
Disappointed, Cheikh told her it was nice to meet her and that this was his stop at 149th Grand Concourse station. Turns out that was the same exact stop for Janet. Cheikh decides to ask Janet again if she would take his number so that he can show her around the city and be her “tour guide”. Nice line.
Janet thought he was cute and agreed but had no intentions of calling the stranger from the train.
Later that night, when Janet returned to her quiet apartment in a new city, something in her mind said “Why Not?!” and she decided to text Cheikh to see what his plans were for the rest of the evening. Cheikh invited Janet to a drumming gig that he had in west village and she followed her instincts and agreed to meet him later that night.
The connection that they had while out on the town was indescribable. Janet and Cheikh’s friendship grew and eventually evolved into a relationship. After a year and half of dating and in front of Janet’s family during Christmas, Cheikh got on one knee and proposed to be Janets eternal “Tour Guide”.
