With the majority of our guests coming from Sydney or London, we've detailed some information for you below.
However, we recommend you research flight options via skyscanner.com or your local travel agent.
Within South Africa we recommend travelstart.co.za to search for your best domestic travel options.
From Sydney
Whilst we are monitoring the airlines regularly with a hope they will resume the Sydney - Cape Town direct route prior to the wedding, it's best to book sooner rather than later. Below are some of the most travelled routes. Qantas offer the most direct flight, via Joburg, which allows you to experience another city ... maybe even squeeze in a Safari at the Kruger National Park (where you can fly to Cape Town from also)
- QANTAS: Sydney > Johannesburg > Cape Town
- SINGAPORE: Sydney > Singapore > Johannesburg > Cape Town
- QATAR: Sydney > Doha > Cape Town
- EMIRATES: Sydney > Dubai > Cape Town
From London
There are direct flights to Cape Town International Airport daily with both Virgin Atlantic and British Airways
Please visit your country's own travel websites, e.g., Smart Traveller, to determine if visas are required to visit South Africa.
For Australian and British citizens, 90 day visas are issued on arrival at Passport control.
Please have your COVID vaccination certificates with you in case they are required.
Accommodation in the Wine Region (for the wedding):
Boschendal Wine Estate (the wedding venue) is located in Franschhoek and we recommend staying here for the wedding. However, the Stellenbosch region offers many great accommodation and exploration options.
- Booking.com
- Airbnb
You can stay at Boschendal (we will be)! WE HAVE BOOKED ALL ACCOMMODATION ON SITE, SO PLEASE ADVISE IF YOU'RE INTERESTED IN STAYING AT BOSCHENDAL. WE WILL MAKE ALL BOOKINGS BY JULY 31ST and they include a 20% discount. You can look at room options here.
Condé Nast Traveller named it one of the top nine family hotels in the world.
Staying in Cape Town (before / after the Wedding):
If you're staying in Cape Town either side of the wedding (which we recommend!), there are plenty of accommodation options also on Booking.com and Airbnb.
We love the following areas:
- Camps Bay
- Clifton Beach
- V&A Waterfront
But anywhere along the seaboard will give you beautiful options.
Of course, let us know if you have any q's before booking.
BOOK EARLY!
Hiring a car at Cape Town International Airport is the most convenient option for your holiday... and driving to the wine region will take no more than an hour and it's a great way to explore!
You'll find all the big names at the airport (amongst others): - Thrifty / Hertz / AVIS / Budget / Sixt / Europcar - Travelstart.co.za is a great website you can use to compare prices.
If you're continuing / starting your holiday along the garden route, hiring a car will be your best bet... and you can drop your car off at a different location depending on your plans.
Uber is our preferred choice for "taxis" - a great / safe option. We don't recommend "flagging down" a taxi, even from the airport. These are unregulated. And we don't recommend using Bolt.
Shuttle Buses:
- Contact Lester or Petula Clark at Winelands Shuttles to book airport transfers or private shuttles through the winelands
- Springbok Atlas is another long standing reputable shuttle bus company for airport transfers, shuttle services within the winelands etc. Drivers operate and are available 24 hours a day. Request a quote online, let them know it's for our wedding and they'll give you a good rate.
