Mani
Known for its rugged terrain and equally rugged inhabitants, who claim descent from the ancient Spartans, the Mani region is the central peninsula of southern Greece. The landscape is dotted with stone towers which were built for protection from pirates, invaders and neighbors. Family vendettas were deeply ingrained in the culture and provided the framework for society. It is rumored the word "maniac" takes its root from this region. Inaccessible except by water, until modern times, Mani is the wild side of Greece.
Why Areopolis?
Areopolis, the capital of Mani, is the village our great-grandfathers came from. When considering where in Greece we wanted to get married, Athens obviously offered convenience, but Areopolis offered the opportunity to pay homage. It is in these cobblestone streets, worn by the feet of generations before us, we will celebrate this sacrament.
