FAQs

Q: Where is the location of this event?
A: It's near the East Bay Pool toward the ocean. The area will be roped off for our party. Familiarize yourself with the pictures that are attached. The pictures are of the area that we have selected for the event.

Q: What can we expect at this Welcome Party?
A: It's an open bar with a dedicated bartender (that's self-explanatory). We'll have music, light hors d'oeuvorse (rolls, crackers, fruit, nuts, Buffet: Seasonal Melon & artisan ham, Lobster salad on endive, California Roll, Morocan Spiced Lamb Lollipops, Pan-Seared Proscuitto-Wrapped Scallops, and Ratatouille, olive tapenade, crostini) and a few seats/tables that will be set up. Otherwise, guests will be free to use the chairs that are in the water or go into the water.

Q: How long is this event?
A: This Welcome Party is an hour. From 7 pm to 8 pm. Guests will be welcome to stay longer, but the food and bar will be taken away at 8 pm. If guests want more drinks, the bar in Coconut Grove is open until around 11 pm, and that bar is about a 5 - 7 minute walk from this event location.

Q: Do I need any cash for this event?
A: Absolutely not! In fact, leave your purse or wallet in the safe in your room. You will not need it for any of the events.

Beachy Wedding Attire. Shoes Optional!!

RSVP Note

Please note that there is an RSVP for The Ceremony, the reception/open bar during pictures, and dinner, but since we are on an island a half mile from Nassau, it is implied that you will also be attending the rest of the events for the evening. We will be on the island from 5 pm - 9 pm. Dinner will be served at 7 pm. If you think you will be hungry or need a snack prior to that, please eat a late lunch. We will have an open bar with light hors d'oeuvres and snack sized candy bars around 6pm, if that helps make your mind up about food options prior to dinner. Dinner is a buffet. There are bathrooms on the island and swimming, if you want to bring a swimsuit. We are renting Sandals' portion of the island, and it's completely private. So there's a lot of area to explore, relax in, and write your own romance novel in

Transportation

You'll be taking the Barefoot Cay Island ferry from the dock in front of Sandals Royal Bahamian (pictured). Currently, the pick-up time is TBD. We will fill this in as that information becomes available. Please check back as we get closer.

FAQs

Q: How do I get to the ceremony?
A: The ceremony is going to be on Barefoot Cay. There is a free water taxi that will get you there from the boat dock in front of Sandals Royal Bahamian.

Q: Do I need to bring anything to the Cay with me?
A: Just yourself, your bathing suit if you want to take a dip between the ceremony and dinner, and a growing appetite (dinner's at 7 pm). Depending on the weather and how you feel, it's your judgment on if you want to bring a shawl for the evening.

Q: Are shoes really optional?
A: YES! However, we will be on the island for 4 hours. If you think that will be too long without shoes or it might get cooler by the end of the night, you are more than welcome to bring a pair of shoes with you. Also, note that the events of the evening will be spread out across 3 locations on the island, encompassing both major beaches of Barefoot Cay (1. ceremony 2. dinner).

Q: What if I have to go to the bathroom?
A: Bathrooms are located at the Aralia restaurant on the island (near the dock). For reference, the Ceremony is the farthest location from the Aralia, of all the events.

FAQs

Q: What do we do during this time?
A: If you are part of the wedding party, you'll be busy taking pictures. There will be an open bar, some passed hors d'oeuvres, and live music via a steel pan player. If you're not involved in the pictures or between pictures, you can grab a drink, sample the snacks, enjoy the music of the Caribbean, socialize with other guests, go for a dip, take in the beautiful scenery of the island, and/or go find a little piece of island and write your own romantic chapter of the night (just don't do anything stupid or get hurt lol).

Q: Will there be any food served during this hour?
A: Light hors d'oeuvres will be passed during the cocktail hour. As stated before, this will include: international cheeses, toasted walnuts, crackers, sliced baguette, tropical sliced fruit tray with local and imported fresh fruit, crisp vegetable crudites and blue cheese dip, island fried chips (yam, sweet potato, dasheen, local potato), and the following will be on serving platters and passed around by butlers: Creamed herb cheese on crostini with olive tapenade; Grilled bruschetta, tomato, garlic, basil; Crab Island Fritters with calypso sauce; Beef brochette, peppercorn sauce; Quiche Lorraine

Q: What's on the menu?
A: As stated above, the menu is Italian Themed and will include the following:

First Course: Antipasto - Genoa salami, cured and smoked ham, marinated artichokes, mushrooms, kalamata and ripe olives, grilled and marinated vegetables, roasted red peppers, mozzarella, provolone, shaved parmesan; Fresh Melon with Prosciutto; Caprese Salad - Fresh basil, beefsteak tomatoes, fresh mozzarella; Classic Caesar - Romaine lettuce, Parmesan garlic croutons, peppercorn-Caesar dressing; Minestrone Soup; Freshly baked garlic rolls and Focaccia breads

Q: Will there be entertainment?
A: There will be a live DJ for those who want to shake their tail feathers.

Q: Will there be seating arrangements?
A: No! There will be a sweetheart table for the bride and groom, and everyone else will be able to sit with their sweetheart, honey dearest, cutie pie, etc. Since it is our hope to promote a romantic evening, we don't want to detract at dinner for our own selfish reasons. So, we will have round tables set up around the dance area and guests will decide which table they want to sit at and with which guests they want to sit because honestly, it's going to be about your comfort level. If someone wants a suggestion, please ask us, and we'll help connect you with a table buddy. There should be about 6 tables with 8 seats available at each table, if that helps you understand the size of the tables and sitting areas.

Q: I have a food allergy. What should I do?
A: Let us know ASAP so that we can ensure special plating.

ALICIA BAILEY
ALICIA BAILEY
MATRON OF HONOR
I met Alicia the first day of Navy boot camp. I do not really call her Alicia, never have. I've always referred to her as Bailey because it kind of became a habit while we were in boot camp, then training, and then, when we were on the USS Abraham Lincoln together. I wouldn't have survived boot camp without this woman and there are several other incidents that I will not get into here, in which she has been my wing lady and has saved my life or saved me from making a really poor choice. I love her fiercely and trust her with my life. This friendship is SO important to me that when I was discharged, prior to the existence of social media, I lost contact with her for about 15 years. I looked all over for her but with the military, people transfer and move all over. I finally found her on social media but that took a long time and, after years of dedicated searching. I was lost without her! With all that we shared, all that we have been through, and how destined it was for us to be in each other's lives, she was ALWAYS going to be by my side when I got married. Considering she knew Dave when we were dating, I'm very thankful that she's able to be with us for our Vow Renewal.
TAMMY FELCAN
TAMMY FELCAN
MATRON OF HONOR
Let me tell you, Tammy was my friend years before she married Dave's cousin John. I didn't need a legal paper or form to know this little lady was family. I don't really remember how we met but I know we've had our fair share of lady's weekends together, shopping trips, and some brief vacations. She's always been one to offer the shirt off her back and she's been there when I needed her, even times when I didn't know I needed her. I love her dearly and I'm happy that she gets to help us share this day together.

BRIDESMAID
Abby was one of the first people I met when I started working at the VA. I also call her Xena but then she also calls me Rogue, names that came about through the work we did in our prospective roles. She has been a good friend throughout the years. She knows when to make me laugh and she's that friend that will make you have that really deep and hard belly laugh. She is the chicken soup of my soul. I love her dearly and I'm glad that she's in my life!
LISA BROOKER
LISA BROOKER
BRIDESMAID
I met Lisa while working at VA. She is a fierce leader and a great friend. She's been very supportive and helpful. I met Lisa through Melissa, and the rest was history. It's funny because Melissa was constantly talking about how great Lisa was and all the things Lisa had done for her so I kind of snuck in and stole a little piece of Lisa for myself until somehow, we were friends, too. Yeah, I guess I shouldn't have been stealing but Melissa wasn't lying, Lisa was pretty awesome, and, in that case, I felt that justified my getting in on Lisa's friendship, haha! Lisa has great stories and I'm super jealous of her travels but I'm still waiting on my ghost story from her, hehe. I love this lady! She is a breath of fresh air and gets super involved in her story telling. I love listening to her!
MELISSA O'DONNELL
MELISSA O'DONNELL
BRIDESMAID

Melissa has been my friend since we started working together at the VA but it feels like much longer. We've been through a lot together and I think the support helped us bond. Have you ever had one of those relationships where you meet the person and you instantly mesh, start talking and the conversation doesn't seem to stop. Yep, that's us! I cherish my Melissa time when I get it and when I don't we make time outside of work to meet up. She might be petit but do not underestimate her. You're looking at Wonder Woman outside the uniform. She's just an awesome person inside and out and I love her for that!

I met Scott at a Lyon's Club event and then he became a DAV member. We've been friends ever since! He's the best smoker around and if he ever wants to give away one of his 2 German Shepard's I'd be willing to take them. After all, they love their Uncle Dave! This guy is the most dedicated to helping people. He's getting married in September 2025.

Ed is my older brother! Go BEARS and Cubs! We definitely agree on sports, but he is more of the walking sports almanac than I am. Ask him about stats and prepare for a lengthy conversation because he can talk your ear off about anything sports.

Brent is one of my newest cousins! He's a cool guy and you can tell by the way he carries himself. He may be a "baby" compared to the rest of us but don't let that fool you, he's definitely an old soul and can keep up with the rest of the pack.

MICHAEL GRUSKIN
MICHAEL GRUSKIN
Officiant
Mike is Dave's uncle. He is an ordained Minister in the Universal Life Church. In his free time, he likes to ski, travel with his wife (Aunt Kathy) and explore the world. They definitely make retirement look fun and give us something to look forward to. We asked Uncle Mike to [re]marry us because we wanted our ceremony to be intimate. We could have been married by the staff at Sandals wedding planning, but they don't know us, they aren't connected to us, and they don't know what kind of people we are. We aren't saying there isn't a need for that kind of thing. We are simply saying, we know what we want, and we want there to be love and our family and friends to leave feeling loved, and as though they witnessed love. Anyone can read words but when there is meaning behind those words because it's coming from a family member and someone who has had a long romance, we knew that's who we wanted officiating our vow renewal.

Secret Service (AKA Ring Bearer)

Most of you know little miss Sam. She's the best of Dave and I. She wanted to be part of the wedding but didn't want to wear a dress and didn't want to stand in the wedding. So, we went through all the various roles and she chose to be a Secret Service person to keep our rings safe lol. This role is all her (including the music).

Hope Wilkinson
Secret Service (AKA Ring Bearer)

Hope has been friends with Sam since elementary school. She has been kind enough to entertain Sam's idea of Ring Bearer to include clothing and everything that it's going to entail.  This will be her first time out of the country. I'm really excited that she gets to come along with us and spend this time catching up with Sam.

Flower Woman
Sandra is our adult flower woman She is our cousin but we've known each other and hung out for years. She's super sassy and was the first person that came to mind for the job that I have in mind. Everyone is going to end up getting a show and a Vow Renewal and that sounds awesome! Love ya, Sandra!

AIRFARE

Please start looking for and booking your own airfare. We were hoping to get a deal through Delta but they do not give out codes, rather give you a group rate when there are 10 or more people on the same itinerary. The most people on the same itinerary is 6 - 8 so we do not qualify for a group rate deal. I encourage you to start looking and trying to book your own airfare. IF you have questions, please reach out to Dave or I.

Notes

1. Nassau requires you to have a passport with at least 6 months remaining, post travel. If you don't have a passport, now is the time to start that process.

2. Nassau has a required immigration form. Some airlines will give it to you in flight (Delta), but I know others will only give it to you as you deplane. Either way, bring a pen (blue or black ink) so that you can enter the immigration line sooner. We stood in that line for an hour, and we had the immigration form completed before we got off the plane.

3. Once through immigration, you pick up baggage at the baggage claim and then go through to the Sandals desk. They will be awaiting your arrival. Once checked in, they will transport you to the resort. Please remember, any porter or person to help load your bags or transport you to the resort is not a Sandals employee and should be tipped appropriately.

Group Travel Info

1. Sandals will transport everyone to and from the resort, free of charge. You may end up being transported on a bus, but it should be comfortable accommodations and with air. It's about a 20-minute ride from the airport to the resort.

Nightlife

Download the Sandals app and start looking at what they offer. They have different activities daily. While we were there, they had a fire show, a singer, a saxophone player, karaoke with a bunch of drunken beach couples (HILARIOUS), and they had games where contestants won free stays. The pool didn't close, though it was open from dawn until dusk, no one told us to get out when we went for a midnight swim. There was also a piano and billiards lounge, if you'd prefer that. Mostly, we enjoyed the entertainment they provided and ended at the Pearl for a late night snack, a drink (for me), to watch the super drunk guys talking about how much they loved each other, and to pet the kittens that hid in the bushes outside. There was too much and not enough time to do it in. That's one of the reasons why we will be staying for 7 nights and 8 days.

Accommodations

We have a contract for deeply discounted rooms at Sandals Royal Bahamian. Due to the size of our group, they assigned us a travel agent. Her name is Kristina Albright, so if she reaches out to you about room reservations, she is legit and will not be an add-on to the price. She created the following link to make researching rooms with our discounted prices listed so that it would be easier to find it all in one location. Also, you can message her from this link and even set up an appointment to meet with her from this link, if you are trying to book your room. Note, there are a couple of room categories for which I took the last of those rooms in that category. So, I took the last of their inventory. Do not wait until the last minute, or you may end up pushed into a higher priced room due to that being all that's available. If you do not see what you want, ask Kristina, she has been somewhat of a miracle worker for some of the questions that I have sent her.    feltenrooms.ultimateviptravel.com/

FAQs

Q: Can't I just go online and reserve my room?

A: No. You'll be paying more if you do that. We signed a room contract because we are requesting a group of 25 rooms. We get a really good discount for that. There's also a discount for the length of nights that you stay. Also, Sandal's wants everyone from our group to be accounted for in our group.

Q: What do my accommodations include? Why does it look expensive?

A: It's an all-inclusive resort. Literally, you arrive, put your wallet or purse in your safe, and you shouldn't need it again unless you are going to have a service at the spa (that's extra) and if you select a butler room (you need to tip your butler. Depending on how you think the service was, normally about $20 per day). Otherwise, you do not tip, and you do not pay for add-ons. You're extra hungry at dinner, and you want surf and turf and Alfredo? There's nothing saying you can't get both. It also includes water sports. They have snorkeling, kayaking, water trike, sailing, paddle boarding, and scuba. That's all included, but you have to sign up for it ahead of time. They also had jet skis. We aren't sure if there was a cost or if that was included, too. All drinks are included, too. This includes the mini bar in your room. They replenish it daily between 9am and 5pm. They serviced our room daily and even turned our bed down in the evening. We tried most of the food locations and did not experience a dish that we didn't like. Even the food trucks were awesome! The cook had gone fishing in the bay that morning and caught the fish he served to us for lunch. It was really good! So, when you think about quality, getting fed, and rekindling your relationship, it's worth the price. Sometimes, you don't know you need something until you get it. It happened to us when we went.

Q: What if I want to stay longer or shorter than it shows the room was held for?

A: Talk to Kristina. She will help you. The minimum stay is 3 nights. With that, you can make any changes you want or need to the room selection. You just need to go through Kristina for that.

Q: What dates are you (Laura and Dave) going to be there?

A: We are reserved for arriving on November 3rd, 2025, and leaving on November 10th, 2025.

Q: What if the room I wanted is not listed?

A: Again, talk to Kristina. If your room isn't listed, she can help get a price check on the room you're interested in.

Q: Are there individual rooms?

A: No, there are no individual rooms at this resort.
