We are very happy and proud to share this town with you, it marked the beginning of our journey together and will now be the stage of our next steps of this adventure we live together called life. Bacalar is this  small touristic town, located near the border with Belize, in the Mayan Riviera,  340 km from Cancun and 40 km from Chetumal. A quaint little town, it's Lagoon is also known as the Seven Colour Lagoon, with many shades of blue and turquoise.

A unanimous recommendation from our local friends, Nixtamal fusion cuisine  of Mayan flavours is one of our favorite restaurants in Bacalar. Definitively a must-go.

A small, cozy little pizza place, serving a wide range of Italian dishes besides the pizzas. They don't always accept cards, as it's depend of their internet and mobile signal, so be sure to ask first.

A vegan-friendly Burger joint, offering a healthy and delicious food with options for both vegetarian and vegan. Only open in the afternoon.

There are a few ways to get to Bacalar.  The most direct is to fly to Chetumal and Bacalar is just a 30 min drive from there as it is a small town.  The easiest way to fly to Chetumal is to Mexico City and then Chetumal as there are more flight options.  You can fly to Cancun but be mindful there is only one flight that flies to Chetumal from Cancun and it isn't every day.

As this was the location of Felipe and I's first 9 day date excursion and  If you would like to take the scenic route and travel similarly as we did.   You could fly to Cancun and from there it is a 4 hour drive to Bacalar (you can also take a bus if you don't want to drive).  If you wanted to arrive a few days earlier you could stop at a few places on the way.  I would recommend spending a day or two in Puerto Morelos which is 30 mins outside Cancun a lovely little town close to the water.  And then drive to Tulum which is about 1.5 - 2hr drive and spend a couple days there.  This little hippy town is quite beautiful full of many restaurants (vegan and vegetarian friendly) and beautiful beaches (best of course attached to the hotels or resorts).  It is a bit more expensive to stay there then Bacalar but it is truly beautiful.  And then Bacalar is about a 2 hr drive from there.  There are many ruins and such along the way and if you every need recommendations please let us know.
