They first met in 1998 at the beginning of their high school years. In Grade 9, they didn't have any classes together, however, one of Esther's friends was in the same class as Alex. The first meeting was merely an awkward introduction between classroom windows.
Over the years, the two became close friends. They would hang out with the same group, sit together in class, tell stories to each other, share laughter, and at one point, even worked at Cineplex together. The two shared many laughs and memories together and have been there for each other in times of need.
After many years of friendship, it wasn't until the year of 2015 that the friendship blossomed into something more. Shortly after Esther moved back to Toronto, after four and a half years of living in BC, Alex decided to ask Esther out. They both took a chance on forming something more with a friend, and their love only continues to grow.
The couple loves going on adventures and travelling together. There isn't a place where either of them would go without the other. Together they have been to Jamaica, Cuba, London, Normandy, and Paris. One of their favourite vacation spots is Cuba - they love the culture, the people, and of course the nice sandy beaches.
On their most recent trip to Varadero, the group decided to go into town and walk around. Alex asked Esther to take a picture in front of an old church saying that since they weren't able to take a picture in front of it the previous year now they can since their close friend, Johnny, was with them. They walk across the street and Esther starts posing for what she thinks is a picture. During this time Alex was fidgeting and moving around. As Esther turns around to ask Alex what he was doing, she finds him down on one knee holding a red box.
Needless to say a promise of forever was made that day.
