Language: You will be with people who are bilingual and can help with translation. Many of our guests are residents of Guatemala or veteran tourists. You'll be in safe hands!
Currency: The currency is called Quetzal (Q) and the exchange rate is about $1= 7Q. A comfortable amount to bring is $200 per person and more if you like to shop and to dine out. Currency exchange can be done prior to travel or at the destination. Also, consider your credit cards and if they have international fees and withdrawal fees.
Elevation: We will be at different elevations during our stay in Guatemala. We can be at 5k feet, 7k feet, or even 13k if you'd like to climb a volcano. If you are sensitive to elevation change, please bring medicine and also let us know. Contact us if you have concerns.
Hospitals: There are plenty of hospitals with great public and private care. If in need of medical help, it will be easy and can be resolved simply.
Safety: As in any country, there are cities to visit and stay away from. We will be in the safest areas and in groups. We will only go to places we are familiar with. Guatemala also has tourist police and guards for business to patrol the area for ease of mind.
Prior to booking a flight, please be sure that your passport will not be expired by the time you travel or you may need to renew your passport. You will only need your passport to travel to Guatemala.
Guatemala's airport is located in the big city and rush hour consists of stand-still traffic that could last a few hours. If possible, please consider booking flights avoiding the hours from 6-8 Am or 4-6 Pm. We will be more than happy to pick you up earlier in the morning or later at night!
We will arrange for your pick up at the airport.
*Kindly RSVP the date you will arrive
If you are planning to come early to explore Guatemala, please arrive by the 4th of March (this will give us ample time to show you around the beautiful country). We will also stay at an Airbnb at the lake before the wedding.
If you are planning to come right before the wedding, please arrive by the 7th of March. There will be transportation there to pick you up from the airport.
Eddy and Michelle have been very generous and kind to open up their homes to accommodate our guests for the week. If you are interested in arriving earlier or leaving later, you may do so and plan accordingly for your transit. If you'd like to stay else where, you may also do so and plan accordingly with your transit and stay.
In March, it will be very temperate where we are in the mountains. In the morning it'll be high 60s, afternoon in the 70s, and then drop to the low 70s in the evening. At the lake, it will be hotter around the 80s.
Consider light clothing, comfortable shoes, a rain coat, and a jacket if you get cold easily.
We will be able to try authentic Guatemalan cuisine that entails, fresh tortillas, delish stews, and lots of sweets! Food will be served at home and at restaurants.
Note for food sickness: Please do not drink tap water or eat street food as their bacteria and immune system is different from ours. We'll have access to filtered water 24/7 and food cooked and cared for carefully.
Allergens: If you have any allergies, please let us know as we will have food prepared for some days.
Plus ones: Our goal is to keep our very special weekend as intimate as possible, we are choosing to celebrate with only our closest family and friends. Thank you for respecting our wishes.
