Día de los Muertos

Our wedding weekend is just a few days before Día de los Muertos, a major Mexican holiday. Please book accommodations ASAP, availability may be limited due to the holiday weekend. 

Passport

Please be sure to have a valid passport with an expiration date at least 6 months from your date of travel. 

COVID-19

We kindly ask that all guest be fully vaccinated

At this time, mask mandates remain in place in San Miguel de Allende. Be prepared to wear a mask indoors throughout the city. 

Our wedding events will be outdoors and will not require masks. 

Airports

The closest airport to San Miguel is about 1 hour away. Please refer to Transportation for recommended options to get to San Miguel de Allende from the airport. 

Del Bajío International Airport - Léon (BJX)

BJX is the most used airport for people traveling to San Miguel. It is about a 1.5-hour drive to San Miguel. However, people flying from the Northeast might find better flight options to Mexico City or Queretaro.

Volaris has a number of affordable direct flights to BJX from Oakland, San Jose, Los Angeles, and Chicago.

American and United also have direct flights through Houston, Dallas, and Chicago to BJX.  

Querétaro - QRO

San Miguel de Allende is about a 1-hour drive from the airport. Limited direct flights from the US at this time. We recommend continuing to check availability as airlines revise routes.

Aeropuerto Internacional Benito Juarez (Mexico City International Airport)

San Miguel de Allende is about a 3.5-hour drive from the MEX airport. This is the most common direct flight option from the U.S. Also a great option if you're able to extend your trip and visit Mexico City while you're here!

There are a TON of great options to rent beautiful and affordable vacation homes in San Miguel. Everything from 1 or 2 bedroom casitas to 7 bedroom villas with full staff that are perfect to accommodate larger groups.

Small cafe with that takes coffee seriously. You'll also find baked goods, breakfast and brunch options. Expect a line in the mornings.

Cute bakery and cafe with homemade breads, pastries, and sandwiches. 

Panio

La Parada

Peruvian flavors and great ceviche walking distance from the center of town. Great spot for lunch!

Tostévere
Great food and drinks. We recommend the tostadas but you can’t go wrong with anything on the menu in this small local joint.

La Doña
Traditional Mexican food with a modern twist. Come here to enjoy a fun meal and delicious authentic dishes. Reservations recommended. 

The Restaurant
Located in a beautiful colonial courtyard and serving global comfort food with American and Mexican influences. Everything is fresh and locally sourced. Reservations recommended.

Antonia Bistro
Rooftop restaurant overlooking all of centro San Miguel. Enjoy cocktails, a late lunch or dinner while taking in the view. 

Atrio

A lovely high-end rooftop terrace in the center of town with an amazing view of the cathedral. The international menu features Latin American and Asian influences and a full selection of steaks. Reservations recommended.

La Mezcaleria
Specializing in Mezcal and small plates. Come here to enjoy great food and drinks in a casual setting. 

Don Taco Tequila

Our favorite margaritas in all of SMA are from the bar at Don Taco Tequila! This restaurant is vegan for our meat-less friends. 

Bekeb
Rooftop cocktail bar with gorgeous sunset views and DJ. Creative cocktail menu by a well known local female mixologist. 

Cumpanio
Located next door and run by the owners of the wonderful bakery, Panio, Cumpanio has breakfast, snacks, and most importantly a bar styled after those in Europe. Perfect to have a spritz or cocktail. Great location right off the main square. 

Things to Do

Hang out in the main square “El Jardin”
Known as El Jardin, a tree-lined plaza in the center of town surrounded by gorgeous centuries old buildings and the famous church of San Miguel, La Parroquia. Enjoy the shade or take in a song from a roving mariachi band while enjoying the sights and sounds of the town square.

Fabrica la Aurora
What used to be a textile factory, today houses canvasses, sculptures and artisan products of great artists who live in San Miguel. Browse art from local artists and enjoy a bite at one of the several cafes.

Take a food or walking tour
San Miguel is filled with art, history, and tucked away gems. Check out Airbnb Experiences or other local tours to get a local’s perspective.

Tequila Tasting
San Miguel is home to renowned tequila, Casa Dragones. They offer small tastings in their tasting room located inside Doce 18 Concept House off of the main square. Book Casa Dragones Tasting
ICAVI (Instituto Cultural del Agave y el Vino) is another amazing tasting experience in San Miguel where you will learn about different kinds of tequila. They also offer tastings for Mezcal and other native Mexican spirits and wines. Book ICAVI Tasting

Botanical Gardens: El Charco de Ingenio
Outside of the city is a 170 acre botanical garden within a nature preserve. It was created in 1990 to preserve the natural environment and features cacti and other indigenous flora. 

Instituto Allende
One of the beacons for artists traveling to Mexico is Instituto Allende which has been luring art students for more than five decades. The institute lives in an 18th century historic home. The campus is open to visitors weekdays and Saturday mornings.
