Our story began in 2014, when a boy from Greenville, MS and a girl from Lagos, Nigeria met on the campus of Austin Peay State University.
We met for the first time during the Fall 2014 semester because Damilola was a resident assistant in the hall Lafonzo was residing in. We introduced ourselves to one another at a residence life program but, little did we know, something more would come of our relationship the following semester. After crossing paths often, on a Thursday evening in March 2015, Lafonzo saw Damilola on duty, sitting in the lobby of the dorm. He approached her and they talked endlessly until it was late. During their conversation that evening, Damilola casually mentioned that she was hungry but wasn't allowed to leave the building while on duty. Lafonzo took the initiative and went to buy her some curly fries. As a true foodie, she was very appreciative of this kind gesture. Lafonzo would then show up to the dormitory lobby weekly at 7pm every Thursday just to see and talk with Damilola. It did not take long for them to quickly become close friends.
After being friends and getting to know each other for some months, Lafonzo officially asked Damilola to be his girlfriend on May 18, 2015. Over the coming years, a beautiful relationship blossomed and they would become inseparable.
On September 23, 2022 Lafonzo asked the big question!
At 7pm that evening, Lafonzo, Damilola, Bosede (Matron of Honor) and Ayotunde (Groomsman) visited a selfie museum,TFTI, located inside of Houston’s Galleria Mall. Bosede, who is Damilola's sister, and Ayotunde, who is Bosede's husband, were aware of the proposal plan and helped to coordinate the big night. As they made their way through the museum, Damilola had no idea what was about to happen. After arriving to the designated photo set, the word “LOVE” was displayed in big Marquee letters, roses were falling from the ceilings all around them, and rose petals were scattered on the floor. The moment had arrived! Bosede distracted Damilola by fixing her hair and, as she did this, Lafonzo reached into his pocket and went down on one knee. To Damilola’s surprise as she turned around, she found Lafonzo on one knee offering her a token of his love for her in the form of an engagement ring. With happy tears falling from her eyes, Damilola exclaimed “YES!” and the road to matrimony began.
