Our relationship began as many modern relationships do: on a dating app.
It was April 2014 when we connected on Coffeemeetsbagel. “What is your favorite bar?” asked the app. Jin looked at Cynthia’s answer and couldn’t believe his eyes. Fat Buddha, his favorite bar. A perfect answer. Already his mind was envisioning long-term plans with this woman who had excellent taste in drinking establishments. Little did he know, that it was selected as the most convenient answer since it was just down the block from her apartment.
The first date went well: dinner, drinks, and conversations. When they said goodnight, the pair separated, and immediately Jin began to overthink the entire situation. “Should I have walked her home? Will she think I’m being too forward or is it the more gentlemanly approach?” A few blocks away, Cynthia was also overthinking two things: “I can’t believe that guy didn’t walk me home and he is so short.” She would later tell her sister Kathy that she was catfished by a man who was definitely NOT 5’9” like he claimed (he is), and did not walk her home (he’s still apologizing).
Cynthia hesitantly agreed to a second date and Jin learned a few lessons, walking her home is a MUST. They walked through the High Line, and Jin walked her to NYU, gave her an incredibly awkward first kiss and said “well…... see you later.” Luckily for Jin, Cynthia agreed to a few more dates, and now five years later, they are looking to start the next chapter of their lives together as Jin walks Cynthia home as husband and wife.
