Cynthia:
I was spontaneously invited to a wedding in NJ by my coworker because her mom couldn’t go. We arrived at the party (late as usual) and I saw a man dressed in a maroon velvet suit that caught my eye. We were then introduced by my co-worker, Joanna. I noticed he was accompanied by someone and assumed they were in together, so I left and sat down at my table with Joanna. He and his cousin saw we were by ourselves and invited us to join their table. We immediately began talking about EDM music (I just went to my first festival a few weeks before) and the conversation just never stopped. I later learned who I thought was his GF was his sister! We talked and danced all night, and he asked for my number. I knew once I left there was something about this guy worth getting to know... Even though he lived 5 hours away.
Edmark:
On September 27th 2017, I was attending my Cousin Mayari’s wedding in NJ. While sitting at the party, I see my cousin Joanna walk in but not alone. It was supposed to be Joanna and her mom attending together, but her mom wasn’t able to make it since there was a hurricane in Florida. I went to greet Joanna and her friend (Cynthia). Little did we know how and where this encounter would take us…
Cynthia:
The day we were going to meet again, I was torn because it was my mother’s birthday. I decided I couldn't miss out on this date so I lied to my mom about my plans and headed to the city. We happened to arrive early for the comedy club and decided to walk around NYC and get breakfast for dinner at a diner nearby. We then went to a comedy club and I laughed so much I couldn’t breathe. Afterwards, we didn’t want the date to end and for him to go home.. So we got in the famous Honda and drove around the city for 4 hours just talking and learning everything we could about each other. I think we both knew we needed to have all the important and real conversations to see if this was worth the fight…and it was.
Edmark:
It was October 13th 2017, (Cyn’s moms birthday). I was up in New Jersey for a work training and had planned a date with Cyn. I planned for us to go to a comedy show at Gotham CC that night. We ended up arriving early and decided to look for a spot to eat. Finally after deciding what to eat we ended up at Malibu diner. After we ate we made our way to the club and just had the best time. After we left we went back to my car and drove around NYC for what felt like 20 minutes, but was really over 3 hours. It went by so fast. Everything felt so natural as if we had known each other for our entire lives.
Cynthia:
We love going on adventures and doing extreme sports. He planned for us to go skydiving (our 4th time). I had absolutely no idea what was coming. After going through the training video and signing away our lives, we got in the plane. Little did I know what was happening behind the scenes. He jumped first and I jumped second while blissfully unaware of what was happening down below. My instructor was distracting me the whole time, spinning me in circles right up until I was about to land. I looked down and saw the sign and immediately started freaking out. I landed and he came over and got down on his knee. I don’t know what he said ( I blacked out) but I know I nodded yes. Then that’s when I noticed my friends and family were there behind me, capturing the moment with us. BEST.DAY.EVER.
Edmark:
After four amazing years of dating, I finally had the perfect plan to propose to Cyn. I thought, what better way to ask the big question than while plummeting towards the earth at lightning speeds? So, I took Cyn skydiving near the Jersey Shore and made sure to bring a banner big enough to be seen from space (ok, maybe not that big, but you get the point) I jumped first to calm my nerves, even though it didn’t work. As Cyn descended, I could hear her joy from miles away or maybe that was just my nerves getting to me. When she landed, I sprinted over with the ring and asked her to marry me. Standing a bit behind us were some of our close friends and family. Little did I know, the real adventure was just beginning!
