Marques had been BEGGING our mutual friend, Sierra, to introduce us. He was stationed in Germany and I was days away from graduation at Ol’ Dirty ( Old Dominion University). I finally told Sierra that she could give Marques my number and when she did, he texted me. We texted for a few minutes and he told me that he’d text me later because he was going to the club...how rude -- I remember thinking that he wanted my number so badly, but respectfully “ghosted” me a few minutes later (he ended up texting me the next day, though)! So, it’s safe to say that when we FIRST “met” via text, I didn’t think we’d end up here, 6 years later, about to get married.

If I had to describe Cortney, I'd say she's beautiful, caring, loving, honest and trustworthy. One of my favorite things about her is how caring she is of others. She’s always looking out for the best interest of others even if she doesn’t know the person well, she cares about everyone.

If I had to describe Marques, I'd say he's outgoing, determined, dependable, affectionate, and he can be STUBBORN! Marques is very caring. He loves seeing people happy -- especially the people that he cares about. He has this “tough guy” exterior, but deep down, he’s so sweet and caring. He’ll go to great lengths for the people who mean the most to him.
A random story that has always reminded me of his character...we were out shopping one day -- he picks up a soccer ball and bought it for one of my students! It made my heart so happy that they bonded over soccer, leading Marques to buying my student his first soccer ball! Marques would facetime me at work to check on my student and whenever my student was having tough days, I would call Marques, they would talk, and my kiddo would be right back on track.

When I first met Cortney I was stationed in Virginia Beach. As we continued to grow and learn more about each other I knew my time in Virginia Beach was eventually coming to an end. But before I was even relocated I knew I couldn’t leave without her or stay to far from her.

Marques proposed in my apartment with just us two. I had just come back from getting my nails done and BAM! I don’t remember what he said, but I remember him giving me flowers and getting on one knee. Then, we went to happy hour with our friends!

I’m most excited to just see how happy Cortney is on our wedding day, there is no specific moment but just to see her smile and all of her hard work pay off. Since I’m currently deployed she's been responsible for doing everything (which I truly apologize for) but I know it’ll be exciting to see her plan come together.
