How we met....(Her version)

Chelsea's version of "How we Met"

As I recall, I was living in Greensboro and the month was March of 2015, I think I was at church when I first noticed this nice looking man. His story may vary a bit because his memory may be a little foggy. Anyway, I do remember that I walked up to him and tapped him on his shoulder. My infamous pick up line was *clears throat* "Is you gonna be bae or nah?"

So after the laughs and he loosened up a bit, I learned that he was in town for work. Obviously I was interested, so at the end of our conversation, I gave him my number and I walked away....thinking that with my luck we would probably not link up again.

To my surprise, he text me the next morning and eventually we set up our first date. Things went well so we continued to see each other and "date" throughout 2015. So in February of the following year, we shared another weekend of him coming up to Greensboro to visit me and we had just gotten back from church...for real this time. My patience of being his "friend" was wearing thin and I had plans to call it all off if we didn't become exclusive soon. We were eating lunch and laughing about something and he said:

Him: "We have some good times together don't we?"

Me: "Yeah." *Mumbles under my breath* "Some good 'single' times..."

Him: "Would you like to be my lady?"

Me: "Awww yes!"

The rest is really for the history books. The moral of the story is, don't be afraid to shoot your shot. It just may be the one of a lifetime. I'm ever grateful that God put us in the same place at the same time.

How we met...(His version)

Roy's version of "How we Met"

Well...I was working out of town in Greensboro. This was in March and on this particular night after work I wanted to have dinner and some drinks, play pool and watch March Madness (basketball tournament). As I was sitting at the bar with my $5 Henny, I was waiting on my food and checking out the scene in the place, and then I felt a tap on my shoulder and it was Chelsea and one of her friends. We all introduced ourselves and then Chelsea and I started conversing. She told me that she was with her girls and they decided to go out after class and they originally planned to go somewhere else but then they ended up at Shooters.

We started talking and as we got deeper into conversation, Chelsea turned around to her friends and yelled "Yo this Bae right here yall!" All I could do was shake my head and laugh...but in my mind I was like "ooook." But even after that we continued talking and I offered to buy her a drink several times but she denied me like bad credit.

At the end of the night we exchanged numbers....and now here we are. So I guess she was right, this is Bae.

The one...

How did you know you met "The One?"

Roy: I knew she was the one because she's educated, kind (over time because at first she wasn't), considerate, and ambitious because she wants to excel in life and have nice things. I also appreciated that she's not a stranger to the church because during the weekend of our second date we went to church on Sunday. We can always be ourselves around each other. We can be silly and weird and it never feels abnormal. I realized that this was someone I see myself going through this journey of life with, together as a family.

Chelsea: I knew he was the one for multiple reasons. Numero uno, he's the ONLY man that I've ever brought home and met my family. When he came home with me, in my head I said we were half engaged lol. But seriously, Roy is the most patient, sweetest, loving person. He has a huge heart and he is intentional when he speaks. I admire how much he has grown as a man and how much we have grown as a couple. I knew he was the one because he willingly puts in the work and the effort for US. People make time and effort for what is important to them and he continues to show me daily that I am special and our relationship matters.
