Cecily and Jacob met in October of 2015. At the time Cecily was living in Culver City with her best friend Linda, and Jacob was living in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Jacob had come to LA to visit his friends, Michael and Mong, who were neighbors of Cecily. The initial meeting was brief since Cecily was leaving for Clearlake the next day. Cecily's famous first words to Jacob were "I like your hair".
Six months later Jacob returned to LA for another visit and their friendship bloomed. Somehow getting lost on a hike through the Hollywood hills was not a deterrent for Jacob. After that initial meeting, Jacob would return to LA every 6 months or so. That time together was spent playing Dungeons and Dragons, singing karaoke, and attending comedy improv and concerts.
Eventually, in November of 2017, Jacob moved to Los Angeles from Wisconsin. By January of 2019, Jacob had settled into LA and secured a full-time position with a local company. After years of being just friends, they decided to give dating a shot. On February 24th, 2019, Jacob took Cecily on their first date to Industry Cafe and Jazz in Culver City.
In August 2020 the couple moved in together and relocated to Irvine, California so Cecily could attend graduate school. The pandemic was in full swing, but their relationship was happier than ever. Once the world started slowly reopening Jacob proposed while on vacation in England. On December 30th, 2021 at Langley Castle, Jacob got down on one knee and asked Cecily if she would marry him. The answer was an emphatic 'YES!'
