Far Hills

Far Hills

Find your way through the foliage and celebrate with us in Far Hills this summer!

A Wedding Festival

We can't wait to welcome you at our home on August 9th to celebrate our marriage! Set in a unique tree covered location in the Wicklow Mountains, our wedding will be a colourful summertime festival of love!

What to Expect

The Ceremony and Reception Drinks will take place in the garden. Dinner & Dancing will take place in the Marquee. Other than that we don't want to spoil any  surprises!

Suffice it to say there will be delicious food, wonderful music, and dancing & laughter aplenty to be shared with friends old and new! Far Hills has a habit of taking a piece of your heart, and we hope that this will be a wedding unlike any other you've ever been to!

We are very lucky to have so many special people in our lives and we really can't wait to party with you all in August! It's gonna be a good one!

Please arrive by 3pm. Ceremony, food, drinks, music and an all night party will follow!

Alcohol - BYOB

We are pulling out all the stops to make our wedding a Summer Festival of Love that you'll never forget! We ask you to help us achieve this by bringing your own drinks to the party.

We will supply the reception drinks and an amount of wine and beer for the dinner, as well as all the soft drinks, mixers and necessary refreshments. But it would be greatly appreciated if you could bring enough alcohol for your own consumption (as well as any other tasty beverages you might like to share with friends!). There will be an area to leave your drinks at the entrance, and later, they will be served back to you at the bar by your friendly bar person.

Attire - Dress For Happiness

We would like you to wear your Very Best Clothes! By that we mean the clothes that make you happy, that make you feel wonderful and full of life.

Whether that's a fluorescent jumpsuit, or a top hat and tails, we want you to come as the best version of yourself, happy and relaxed and ready to party! If in doubt, the more colourful the better :)

High Heels or Runners?
Caroline wore high heels to her first party in Far Hills, looked magnificent, stole Nic's heart, and is getting married there exactly 5 years later! However, she's worn runners to every party since :) She would advise that if you are wearing heels, you might also like to bring a second pair of flats, so that you can explore the garden without sinking into the grass or going over on your ankle. Plus, runners and an amazing dress is always a good look!

Gifts

Living together we already have many of the traditional gifts that people receive as they set out on their lives together. However, if you are thinking of getting us a gift, what we would really love is a contribution to our Honeymoon Fund :)

Thanks

Thank you so much for being part of our lives, we really hope you can make it on August 9th for the celebrations!

All the Love,
Caroline & Nicholas

Far Hills

The Whelan family have been incredibly lucky to call Far Hills their home for nearly four decades. The unique hill top location on the shoulder of Caragoona Mountain provides stunning 360 degree views. From various corners of the garden you can look out over the Wicklow Mountains, the Irish Sea, Bray, Bray Head, Killiney Hill, Dalkey Island, The Scalp, Powerscourt, as well as the Little and Great Sugarloaf Mountains. And on a clear day you can see all the way to Wales and the Mountains of Mourne.

The Wedding, including the ceremony, will take place in the beautiful wild gardens of Far Hills. Guests will be encouraged to explore the multi-level lawns, ponds, and hidden pathways that weave beneath the forest of trees that envelope the property.

For the many guests who have spent joyous times here over the years, we look forward to welcoming you back. To those making their first visit, we hope that you enjoy the relaxed, informal atmosphere that makes Far Hills so special.

Directions & Map

Getting There

Far Hills is not as far away as the name suggests! With no traffic it's only a 30 minute drive to Dublin city centre, so getting here and back shouldn't be a problem. That said, some logistics will have to be considered in order to get everyone to and from Far Hills. Calling a taxi from Bray at 3am is possible but you might expect a long delay at that time on a Friday night, so we strongly advise making travel arrangements beforehand.

Driving

Parking is going to be tight so if you are driving please carpool where possible! There is limited parking on the grass verge either side of the road directly outside the house. Once those spaces have been filled cars will need to park slightly further away but nobody will have to park more than a few minutes walk away. We will have signs ready to direct traffic on the day. If you have any questions or concerns beforehand give us a call!

Designated drivers who are driving home after the wedding are encouraged to offer lifts to anyone who might need them. If you intend to leave your car here overnight we recommend pre-booking your taxi home

Taxi

A taxi from Dublin city centre usually costs around €60. Fares to Southside suburbs usually around €40. Trips to Bray are about €15. If you are sharing between 4 people that works out pretty economically.

Whether you are arriving by taxi, drive, or get a lift, we strongly recommend you arrange your transport home beforehand. Waiting for a taxi company to answer in the middle of the night is no fun, and we'll be competing with all the pubs closing on a Friday night in Bray so if you leave it to the last minute there might be a long delay.

If you pre-book a taxi in the days before the wedding you should be fine. If there is a larger group of you coming together you might consider hiring a minibus to pick you up.

Public Transport

Coming from Dublin, the DART will get you as far as Bray, and the Luas as far as Cherrywood. Both are about 10 minute drive away so you will have to arrange for a taxi for the final stretch of the journey. The 133 Bus Eireann and 145 Dublin Bus will get you closer but you will need to be collected from the Bus Stop. If you intend to travel by public transport and have any questions or difficulties give us a shout!

Where is Far Hills?!

Our official address has changed many times over the years, but currently, according to our Eircode at least, we live in Carrigoona Commons East (Eircode: A98FD71). Other information you may need to give taxi drivers is that we live in Glencormac, at the top of the Rocky Valley Drive, near Kilcroney Lane, off the N11 between Bray and Kilmacanogue.

Thankfully you don't need to know any of that these days, you can just use Google Maps!

Accommodation

Places to Stay

While we do live in the countryside, we are actually very close to Bray, which is a large thriving town by the sea, and there are numerous hotels, B&Bs, Airbnb’s, Hostels and Campsites in the general area. Search for Bray, Kilmacanogue or Enniskerry when looking online.

Please note that unlike previous parties at Far Hills, there will be no camping in the garden at the wedding.

If you’re unsure of anything, have special requirements or need any help whatsoever, don't be afraid to give us a shout! We want everyone's adventure to the Wicklow Mountains to be as relaxed and enjoyable as possible, if we can help in any way please let us know!

For those of you returning to your own homes please refer to the transport section.
