A Few Travel Tips

I know travel can feel overwhelming, please don't hesitate to reach out to Cale or I with any questions pertaining to travel. We are happy to assist you with finding the best priced flights, where to book accommodations or general questions.

1. August is high season in Santorini, therefore we suggest making arrangements as soon as possible for the best rates and availability.

2. It will be very hot in August, dress accordingly and bring your swimsuits!

3. Keep in mind it will be crowded and the hotels with caldera views may require walking up several stairs with no transportation access.

4. All the hotels below are no more than 15 minutes away from the wedding venues and have been suggested by the wedding planner.

5. Depending where your flying from it may also be easier to fly into Athens first then into Santorini. The airport name for Santorini is Thira.

Getting There

Santorini Airport (JTR)
There is an international airport on Santorini offering direct flights from Sydney, Los Angeles and other main hubs. These flights are less frequent then flights to Athens.

Athens Airport (ATH)
There are regular and inexpensive flights from Athens to Santorini.

Ferry Services
There are also regular ferry services from neighboring islands (i.e. Ios, Crete, Paros, Naxos...the list goes on). If you were planning on making more of a holiday out of our wedding then you might want to consider combining Santorini with another Greek Island.

Areas of Santorini

Important Information

Below you will find a summary of some of the major areas to stay and visit while in Santorini. However, there are two generally more popular areas above the others, Fira and Oia. Both are on the caldera/cliff side of the island where you'll find all of the white-washed houses and blue domes.

FIRA

(Capital of Santorini | Cliff Side of Island/Caldera Views)

Fira is the capital of Santorini and the island's liveliest spot 'where all the action takes place'. We've chosen to stay in Fira during the wedding week as it's kind of the main central spot for places to eat, drink, where nightlife, shopping and fun things to do are, along with the stunning white-washed houses and blue dome views. It also has transportation hubs (cabs, busses, quads, car rentals) right in the middle of everything - making it easier for group gatherings. Fira is less pricey compared to Oia and still carries amazing sunset views.

OIA

(Cliff Side of Island/Caldera Views

Oia is known for its breathtaking sunrises & sunsets - but comes at a higher price than Fira. It not only hosts cave houses dug into volcanic rock on the cliffside, but is also luxurious, has romantic restaurants and high-end shopping. Transportation is available here and is about 20-25min drive from Fira.

IMEROVIGLI

(Cliff Side of Island/Caldera Views)

In between Fira & Oia is Imerovigli, an area less expensive to stay but a lot quieter, as restaurants are fewer and farther between. If you're renting a car or keen to walk loads it's a good option however, as it's sunset views are very good.

KAMARI & PERISSA

(Beach side of island)

On the opposite side of the island (far from the wedding location & Fira) are Kamari and Perissa, areas that have red/white/black sand beaches and are all quite lovely. They don't have the 'typical Santorini' cliffside views but are often less expensive
