What is Henna?

Henna (Lawsonia inermis) is a plant-based dye created from the henna tree, also known as Egyptian privet, and mignonette tree. The leaves of the henna plant contain a natural coloring pigment that is used for temporary body art, coloring hair, dye skin, fingernails as well as fabrics such as leather, wool, and silk.

For thousands of years, mehndi has been used as a form of body art. This is why the Mehndi party is often held the day before the wedding—to beautify and bless the bride before her big day.

We will have a henna artist available at the Mehndi for anyone who would like to try it out! Please keep in mind that henna will fade but can still be seen up to 2 weeks after it's applied.

What Type of Food & Drinks Will There Be?

Pakistani food is very similar to Indian food - flavorful curries, meat stews, and delicious rice and naan. We will keep the spice to a minimum so that everyone can enjoy!

Pakistani events are served buffet style. Additionally, traditional Muslim weddings are dry, so the 3 Pakistani events will not have alcohol served.

The American wedding will be a sit-down gourmet dinner with an open bar and a late-night surprise!

Are Indian and Pakistani Outfits the Same?

Pretty much! The types of clothing and colors are very similar, and many of the same events occur in Indian weddings. However, Pakistani attire is slightly more conservative, with no crop tops or low-cut clothing.

Where Else Can I Find Pakistani Clothes to Buy or Rent?

Unfortunately, Pakistani clothing is usually not sold at Target. But there are a few online stores that have everything that you would need! Amazon and Etsy have sizable collections, just type in the keywords mentioned on the events page (Lehenga, Kurta, etc).

Here are some more links to places that sell Pakistani clothing (mostly women's clothing):

Do I Have to Come To All The Events?

Yes.

No, just kidding! Please feel free to come to as many or as few of the events as you wish. In the spirit of Pakistani culture, everyone is invited to all the events! We will be asking for RSVPs to each event in the formal invitation, in order to help each event run smoothly.
