Travel to St. Lucia!
Basic Geography
Saint Lucia is an island in the West Indies, located in the Caribbean. The island is small, only about 230 square miles, but due to it's volcanic origins and mountainous terrain, it does take a while to travel from one part of the island to another.
The capital city is Castries; other major towns include Gros Islet, Soufrière, and Vieux Fort.
Weather and Climate
Saint Lucia has a tropical rainforest climate. In December, the average high is 84*F and the average low is 75*F. December is considered the coolest and driest month of the year to visit Saint Lucia, but we don't anticipate the weather being anything like New York at that time!
Travel Tips
Currency
The currency of Saint Lucia is the Eastern Caribbean Dollar. Currently, the exchange rate is US$1 to EC$2.65. US Dollars are readily accepted throughout the island. Visa, American Express and MasterCard are widely accepted at hotels, car-rental agencies, shops and restaurants.
A 10% tax and 10% service charge are added to the bill at all but the cheapest hotels and restaurants; there’s no need for additional tipping.
Power/Adapters
In Saint Lucia the power plugs and sockets are of type G. The standard voltage is 240 V and the standard frequency is 50 Hz.
YOU WILL NEED A POWER ADAPTER IN SAINT LUCIA.
When we travel internationally, we use the adapter linked below. It's fairly inexpensive and works for many different countries.
Airports
We know it's early! Please be on the lookout for reasonably-priced flights for the week after Christmas and before New Year's.
The two airports that service St. Lucia are Hewanorra International Airport (UVF) and George F.L. Charles Airport (SLU). George F.L. Charles Airport is located in the northern part of the island, and this is where our ceremony and reception will be held. Hewanorra International Airport is located in the south, and would require more travel to get to our venues.
