Ale: I was in the middle of my clinical year of medical school and I decided to go out to Candela Fridays by myself after a dance class. I wasn’t feeling it too much so I had a drink at the bar, where the bartender pointed this “new guy” out and told me he was from Texas. So, being the friendly “Texan” I am, I asked him to dance. We had so much fun dancing together that we started chatting, and I quickly realized that he wasn’t from Texas… but that he had just moved to NYC (4 days prior!) and that he was from Cincinnati where we had multiple mutual friends. Since that night, we’ve been texting every day and I LOVED that he used to call me “pretty lady” and “sunshine” when we started talking. Such a smooth talker… The rest is history!

Ale: We hadn’t been able to celebrate my birthday for a few weeks because of my schedule so, on this day, Anthony had set up a full day of activities as a surprise to celebrate. First, we went to a hole-in-the-wall Mexican restaurant called La Contenta, followed by a drink at a cool distillery and then, we went on a Whiskey Tour Boat Ride on the Hudson! I was so surprised! The day was perfect. We ate, drank, took pictures and afterwards, ended up at a cafe where hundreds of decorative wooden sheep acted as witnesses to us making it “official.”

Ale: I was post-call, delirious but so ready to go on our friend’s boat with some other friends who were visiting. I had ZERO CLUE. We stopped by the Hilton to pick our friends up and I even thought I saw Anthony’s mom and little brother, but I was so distracted I shrugged it off. We finally got on the boat and I was having the most perfect day ever. Reggeaton was playing, the water was the brightest blue I’d ever seen, and I was having so much fun dancing that I fell off the boat and floated around the ocean feeling totally at peace. Everyone then began to freak out fo me to get on the boat because we “had to go.” Once back on the boat, I heard the LOUDEST cheers coming from a huge yacht, and they sounded SO HAPPY that I just HAD to interact with them. I waved and yelled thinking someone had just gotten engaged and they were celebrating… then slowly I started to recognize people on the boat and was VERY CONFUSED until I turned around to see Anthony on one knee. :)
